Sometimes it seems that’s there’s only bad news, but remember there is always good news too–it just takes a little searching. This is my attempt to find it and share it. Just click the links to read the stories–I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.
1. 4th Grade Running Guide Helps Blind Runner Run Cross Country. This story touched me so deeply. Paul Scott is a high school freshman and loves to run cross country. But, he is blind and because of this challenge, he requires a running guide. Fourth grader Rebel Hays heard of the need for a volunteer to help guide Scott and was with him all season. They have formed a bond and as Rebel put it “He inspires me to run faster”. Both of these young men amaze me.
2. Deaf Sheepdog Returns to Herding After Learning Sign Language. Peggy the sheepdog lost her hearing at age 8. The owners of the local animal shelter took her in and immediately saw that she wanted to still herd sheep. After teaching her some hand signals, she was able to resume her duties. What a sweet story! And what an amazing dog!
3.Woman Collecting Shellfish Discovers Footprint of ‘Jurassic Giant’. Marie Woods was out looking for some nice shellfish for her dinner when she looked up and saw an enormous foot print . It turned out to be the largest dinosaur footprint ever recorded in Yorkshire and belonged to a megalosaurus. She happens to be an archeologist and knew immediately she had found something special. What a discovery!
4. Indian Rail Worker Saves a Child at the Last Second From Oncoming Train. This is one of those stories that takes your breath away. A mother in Mumbai was holding her young child’s hand leading him along the railway platform when she lost her grip on him. He fell onto the tracks with a train fast approaching. A railway worker, Mayur Shelke, sprang into action and swooped the child and himself out just in the nick of time. The video made my heart race. What a hero!
5. First Astronauts Successfully Launched to the Space Station Using Recycled Rocket Booster. NASA and SpaceX have successfully launched a 4 man astronaut team using a recycled rocket booster. They had previously had success with unmanned rockets, but this was the first human piloted one. This is another big step forward in space travel.
