A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, tried, and remembered.
1. We invented and made our own board game. This was all Super Rockstar’s idea and it was a great one. Morgan and Grayson have really been into Ghostbusters lately–so we came up with a game based on the movies. It’s really fun and it was a great way for everyone to express their creativity. Super Rockstar designed it and did most all the constuction (we all brainstormed ideas), Morgan and Grayson built the Lego portions ( a jail and the ghost trap) and helped color the board, Grayson came up with the idea to make it two levels–so if you land on a certain spot you fall through to the “River of Slime”, and I….well, I was the “encouragement supervisor”. It was a really fun family activity and we have enjoyed playing it several times–check out the video to see how it all works.
2. I got to try out snow shoeing for the first time. I bought a pair at a garage sale last summer and we finally have gotten enough snow to actually use them. It’s kind of like walking like a duck in snow, but I appreciated how they grip and kept me from sinking up to my knees in the deeper parts. I think Barney was wishing they made some in his size.
3. I read “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society”. My Mom told me about this book and loaned me her copy. The title alone made me raise my brows and ask the question we all want to know the answer to–“what exactly is a potato peel pie and what does it have to do with a literary society?” You’ll have to read the book to find out–I promise you will not be disappointed. (Oh, and there’s a movie based on the book on Netflix right now–also good.)
4. It’s a gig weekend. I always love going to Super Rockstar’s gigs. His band, SofaKillers ,always puts on a great show and it’s fun to dance and be out and about. I confess I moan and complain just about every time he has gigs. We are usually homebodies on the weekends that enjoy being in our PJ’s and watching movies, so getting dressed to go out at 9pm never feels very natural. But, once I’m there I always have a blast. Check out the video with my man singing “Tennessee Whiskey”. Yowza! Be still my heart!
5. It’s the Super Bowl on Sunday! I absolutely LOVE the Super Bowl–I love watching the game AND the commercials. The only downside is that I never feel like I can leave the room to get snacks or for a potty break. Thank goodness for DVR’s. Now, I know there’s a lot of haters out there that are REALLY disappointed about the Patriots being in the Super Bowl…again. It’s my belief that the reason Tom Brady is so despised is because he reminds us of that one kid we grew up with in high school –“Oh great! So and so got ANOTHER award for being so smart and perfect”. We just don’t trust anyone that can be great at something and good looking too–It goes against our natural need for fairness. My older son, Morgan is a Patriots fan–so we will cheer them on. Plus, it’s a perfect opportunity to eat junk food. I always feel that having a reason removes the feelings of guilt.
Hope you all have a great week!
