A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. A Denver Getaway. Long ago we started the tradition of going to Pirate’s Cove Water Park every summer in Denver. It has a great lazy river, water slides and several pools to enjoy. We missed getting to go last year because of Covid, but we were excited to get to go this year. When we planned our trip, the temps said it would be in the high 80’s and partly cloudy. Perfect. However, being Colorado where no weather predictions are EVER accurate, it turned out to be cloudy, high of 70 and chances of rain. Bummer. We ended up going and toughing it out for about 2 hours, but we were freezing. We decided to go visit the Denver Museum of Nature and Science instead and had a blast. We’ve been here several times before–for field trips and such, but this time was by far the best time we had ever had. We took our time, looked at everything and enjoyed every minute of it. A perfect end to our day was staying in a hotel that had a fantastic pool and hot tub plus our room had two bedrooms so the boys each got their own beds. They thought it was luxury at it’s best. Me too.
2. Room Remodeling. My boys decided earlier this year that they were ready to have their own rooms again. Back when they were preschoolers they asked to share a room–mostly because they felt safer, but also because they just love being together. They still get along really great, but Morgan is starting high school this year (sob!) and is feeling the need for his own space–so, we have begun the process. It’s not as simple as just moving beds and clothing (nothing in our home ever is). Super Rockstar had been using our spare room as an art studio–step 1 was finding a new space for him to create his art. Once that was done, Step 2 was painting Morgan’s room and putting up some wall paper to look like a forest–he wants his room all decked out in a camping theme with hunting camo. Step 3 was dismantling the Heavy Assault Walker beds Super Rockstar made for their Star Wars themed room several years ago. The boys helped with this and did a great job. We were then able to move Morgan’s bed to his new room and set up a closet for him. Next will be adding all the décor, accessories and bedding for both rooms, painting and wallpapering Grayson’s room (he also wants an outdoor type setting) and then Super Rockstar has his work cut out for him making their beds look like a camper for Morgan and a cabin for Grayson. We’re gonna be at this for a while, but at least they’re in their own spaces for now. I have to admit this has been a tough one for me emotionally–just another sign they’re growing up so fast. I think we’ll need to create a cry room for me.
3. The Birthday Boy. Super Rockstar celebrated his double nickel birthday and had a pretty good day. We got to go see Black Widow at the movie theater the day before, then he awoke to his traditional birthday box scavenger hunt and enjoyed opening all of his gifts. We also had an epic nerf gun battle and then got to do one of our favorite pastimes–go shopping at an antique store. He ended his day with a new tradition Grayson started–being pelted by nerf bullets instead of birthday spankings and then getting to have some birthday cake. Happy Birthday Babe!
4. Wolf Ranch Gig. Wolf Ranch is one of many neighborhood communities in our city that host free live music concerts all throughout the summer. This one is special to SofaKillers because 12 years ago they played their very first gig there–officially, they were called Days Gone By for that first show (I know. I’m glad they changed their name too). It was a great night and even though an evening rain shower came through–everyone came prepared with umbrellas and stuck around. The guys put on a great show and we all had a fun night.
