A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Something old my made new. I have been on the hunt for a roll top desk for a while. We found several options, but none of them seemed “the one” until Super Rockstar stumbled across one on Craigslist. It looked a little rough, but it was only $50 (including a chair) so we decided to go check it out. I fell in love immediately. It was bigger than I had thought I wanted, but the protentional was tremendous. “It has good bones”–as my parents would say. PLUS, inscribed on the bottom of the pull out trays was the name of the original owner in 1916 and he was from Kansas–my home state. SOLD!
So, I spent the past month taking it apart, cleaning it up and repairing all the broken bits. It has been such a fun project. The couple we purchased it from had been storing it for years–thinking they would get to it “some day.” I’m so glad they decided to let it go (and for such bargain too!). I will enjoy this for so many years to come.
2. Individual fun nights with our boys. We try to go out on individual fun nights with our boys about every other month or so. We let them choose a fun activity, but our rule is that we will also go to a sit down dinner and have time to talk. I love that our boys come prepared for this talk time–even seeming to look forward to it. They want to share their stuff with us. They want us to care and be interested. Every day life can get so busy, so this has become a great way to connect.
It was my turn with Morgan and we chose Olive Garden as our place to eat (Ah–the breadsticks and alfredo sauce!)and then he chose for us to go see the new movie Free Guy. It was awesome! We had such a great time.
3. An amazing freebie from a friend. Our friends, Matt and Mary Kaye recently sent out a message that they were ready to part with their antique baby grand piano and asked if any of their friends wanted it. All that was needed was to pay for delivery. I raised my hand high. We have owned a baby grand for the past 20 years or so, but, it’s in need of a lot of love and care that I just haven’t wanted to tackle. Theirs is in MUCH better condition and plays beautifully.
We are just loving it. Thank you Matt and Mary Kaye! Now, if anyone is interested in a good “fixer upper” baby grand piano, have I got a deal for you….
4. Summer break is over, but summer fun is not. It’s always so bizarre to have the boys back in school and yet here in Colorado, we’re at the height of our summer heat. But, never fear, we just postpone the fun times until after school–playing in the pool and lounging around the fire pit.
5. What we watched. Just click the link to read our reviews on some movies and a TV show.
6. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
