A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.So much to be thankful for. I know, I know Thanksgiving was like 100 years ago. I’m a little behind on my Coffee Break post, but we have so much to be thankful for and I didn’t want it to slip by. This past year has been so hard on all of us. Going through a pandemic was a unique experience, but I am SO thankful that we, as a family, were not hit with the devastation that so many were. In fact, we were blessed a whole lot this past year. God answered so many prayers (some that we had been begging Him for years), we enjoyed becoming a lot closer as a family, and I think we all are learning to be a little more gracious to those whom we don’t have a clue what it’s like to walk in their shoes. I’ve been reading a book called Practicing the Presence of God. In it are letters and advice from a 16th century priest named Brother Lawrence. In one of them he admires that a friend is going through a hard time because he himself has learned that he never enjoys closeness with God more than when he is ill or suffering. Now, I’m for sure not at the point where I want to go through hard times and struggles–but I am appreciating that sometimes going through them helps me realize how near God is and how much He cares so intimately about each and every one of us.
2. Re-decorating the boys bathroom. We have been on a re-decorating frenzy for our boys. Super Rockstar made them new beds and we re-decorated their bedrooms, and then decided to re-do their bathroom too. I’ll be honest–it was a need more than a want. I don’t know who else out there is raising boys, but I personally have learned that donning a hazmat suit, washing down their bathroom with bleach and burning all that was in it –is necessary about every 2-3 years. They still are very into Star Wars and since we still had a lot of the decor from their past bedroom theme–it made things a lot easier. I love it and they are so happy with it too.
3. A Beautiful Day at the Park. The temps have been hovering in the 50’s and 60’s for several weeks now, so we decided to pick up some KFC and head to our favorite Black Forest park. We enjoyed playing some b-ball, tennis and the boys flew their drones. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to soak in some warm Colorado sunshine in late November/early December. We all know the freezing cold is coming soon.
4. Party Time! One of our favorite holiday traditions is hosting a Christmas open house every year. Preparations start many weeks in advance with decorating our home, baking goodies (sometimes at 3am because I can’t sleep, and my mind won’t shut up until I do something on my list) and then cooking up a storm. Santa has been a special guest for several years now and both kids and adults enjoy getting to meet the jolly fellow. We sure loved having all of our friends from every area of our lives–work, church, school, neighbors, old friends, new friends, and my parents–joining us in kicking off the Christmas season. It was an absolutely wonderful night.
5. What We Watched. We enjoyed seeing a new Angelina Jolie movie on Prime, we’re re-watching the Matrix movies (new one comes out this month) and took my parents to see Ghostbusters After life (our second time–their first). Just click the link to read our reviews.
6. My Favorite Memes of the last (2) week(s).
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
