A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Cooking Class–Morgan asked me to teach him how to make his favorite rice this week. When I finally picked my jaw up off the floor (he never wants me to teach him anything), I gladly showed him how to make Fried Rice. His secret ingredient? Extra butter–that’s my boy! I’ll share the recipe later this week.
2.Homecoming–He’s HOME!!! There’s just not enough exclamation points to convey how excited I am to have my man home! After over 32 hours on airplanes, 4 different airports, and being completely sleep deprived–he made it and we are so, so, so, so happy to have him back and he is so, so, so happy to be back. The USA obviously is not a perfect place, but Super Rockstar will tell you that in his experience of traveling to multiple locations around the world–we have it pretty darn good.
3.Not feeling like it, but doing it anyway. It’s funny how when you put upcoming things on the calendar they never seem quite as overwhelming as when the events actually transpire. We knew that when Super Rockstar got back from his trip that things were going to be pretty busy for him–2 gigs, coaching the boys flag football game, and Easter–all in a 3 day period. What we didn’t take into account was that he would be jet lagged, have a cold and a bad case of laryngitis (not a good thing when you have to sing and coach), and just feeling overall pretty rotten.
After barely making his way through his first gig(their guitarist, Rich, was super sick too), rasping his way through the flag football game after only a few hours sleep, and then having to improvise with “live band karaoke”(letting folks from the crowd come up and sing songs from the set list) when he couldn’t even squawk out a note for his second night of gigs–he pooped out. We barely saw him on Easter–his body had just had enough. We found out that he has flu, an upper respiratory infection and an inner ear infection. He definitely didn’t feel like doing any of it, but I’m proud of him for doing it anyway. Now he can just lay low and heal for a few days.
4. Some assembly required. We usually don’t do big gifts for the boys for Easter, but I’ve been wanting to get them their own basketball goal for a while and this seemed like a good opportunity. So, I purchased the giant box noting that the instructions said assembly would take about an hour. This is something I don’t usually even think about because I am the buyer of the things, not the assembler of things. Super Rockstar is the assembler of things–it’s just a rule in our home. But, with all the aforementioned troubles he was experiencing–I was now going to have to brave 50 pages of instructions and putting together multiple pieces that–coming out of the box– made no sense. I am proud to say that I got it done. It took me 2 1/2 hours, but I feel the “1 hour” time they suggested is a bit optimistic as it doesn’t take into account if one mounts the hoop upside down and then has to take it back off and remount it, hunting down nuts and bolts that are playing hide and seek, and it being VERY late at night.
5.Happy Easter! I absolutely LOVE this day of celebration. I love every part of it–coloring Easter eggs, putting together baskets with our favorite Easter treats (oh my goodness–Reese’s eggs), watching the boys hunt eggs and then going to church. He is RISEN!
Have a great week!
