A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Barney’s Recovery. Our dog, Barney, had a mishap back in December. He was jumping around in excitement over the prospect of going for a walk and ended up tearing his ACL. It’s been 5 weeks since his surgery–poor guy had to have his back side shaved down to the skin (I wanted to buy him a pair of pants), wear the ‘cone of shame (he kept bumping into things and seemed so pathetically confused over why he couldn’t eat and drink without a huge production of maneuvering), and has to be carried like a baby up and down stairs (he seems so embarrassed)(I’m not exactly happy about hoisting your chunky butt either, Barn). He is recovering nicely and even putting weight on his injured leg again. There’s still another 7 weeks of recovery, but he gets to go to physical therapy appointments where they give him oodles of treats trying to coax him to do various obstacles to strengthen his leg. I love watching them as they put a spatula of peanut butter in front of his nose, so he’ll step onto a platform. They learned very quickly that he has a stubborn streak. That dog will crane his neck until it’s about to snap, lapping up as much peanut butter as he can. Then go around the platform and gobble up more before they pull it away. But he will NOT step up on the platform. He can. He just won’t.
2. A Reluctant Hike. Our typical Colorado winter is going on–snow storm blast one day/gorgeous, sunny and warm the next. Last weekend it was so nice out and since my boys seemed to have become permanently molded into the sofa, we attempted to coax them out for a short hike. Oh. My. Goodness. The weeping and gnashing of teeth. They complained the whole time. Except when they found some snow and found glee in pelting Super Rockstar and I with rock hard ice snowballs. Fine. Whatever. We gave it right back. Parenting teens is fun.
3. Science Fair Joy. It’s that time of year again. The dreaded science fair. I don’t have to help with much of the boys’ homework–some spelling words here, some writing topic assistance there. I have named Super Rockstar the official ‘math tutor. It’s for the best–really. But, come science fair–it’s all on me. I have taught my boys to be brilliant procrastinators, but Grayson is usually on top of it with his schoolwork. House chores? That’s another story. So, when I found out that he hadn’t done bupkis for his science fair project on Friday and that it was due on Monday–well, our weekend was shot. You see, the science fair project CAN’T be done without parent help. It’s not possible. So, after a lot of fit throwing and going through all the stages of grief (me–not him), we got it done. The only up-side to this one is that it involved coffee. I hope we get a good grade.
4. Date Night @ Boot Barn Hall. Super Rockstar hasn’t had any gigs this month. It’s been kind of nice, since December was SUCH a busy month. Black Rose Band is a local country cover band –and a second band that SofaKillers’ drummer, Dewey plays in. They got a last-minute gig at Boot Barn Hall (a venue SofaKillers plays at quite often) and so we decided to go support him and have a date night. It was fun to go there just as spectators, do some country dancing and enjoy the night.
