A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Yard Stuff–This time of year is not my favorite. Not only is it major allergy season–it’s also time to do yard work. I don’t enjoy this at all–mostly, because I’m lousy at it. I feel like I spend hours and hours weeding, raking, planting, and fussing. And then– just as things might start to look a little decent, we’ll get softball size hail–destroying it all. By the time I get it somewhat recovered, it’s fall and everything dies again. It does not bring me joy and according to the KonMari method–I must get rid of it. If only….
This week I had to rake up all the dead grass.
2.Avengers-End Game–I promise you there are no spoilers here. It is good. I enjoyed it. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you don’t drink a big drink before or during the movie–it’s a long one and you don’t want to miss anything.
We were so blessed that a former neighbor/forever friend purchased several seats when the tickets first went on sale. Thank you Rosie and Rodney! It was a blast to experience seeing it with you and your beautiful family!
3. Team work. The boys’ spring flag football season has started. Last week was their first game and the other team didn’t have enough players show up (they were missing one), so my older son, Morgan, volunteered to play for them–giving each team an equal number of players. I was very proud of him for doing that, epecially since it takes a lot of courage to play a team sport with kids and a coach you are meeting for the first time.
The good news is the team he played for beat us soundly–he even got to throw his very first ever touchdown pass (bursting with pride here). The bad news is that our team–with my younger son, Grayson, playing–got beaten soundly. He was pretty upset about it, but Morgan was a great big brother and didn’t gloat or brag at all. (I’m not so sure Grayson would have been as gracious had the tables been turned). Now I know what it must have felt like for Peyton and Ely Manning’s Mom when they were on two different NFL teams and played against each other. Sigh. Tough stuff.
This week they both played on their own team with Super Rockstar coaching and they got to experience the sweet feeling of victory together.
4.Recognized as The Best. Super Rockstar has been with his band SofaKillers for almost 10 years now. Every year our local newspaper hosts a “Best Of” contest where folks in Colorado Springs can vote for their favorites in numerous categories–including best local band. SofaKillers has won Silver and Bronze a few years in a row now, but never the first place Gold. Last year, they even played the gig for the big unveiling event, but–always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Of course this is the first year none of the guys actually went to the event and guess what? They won! They were voted by the good people of Colorado Springs as Best Local Band. In my humble opinion–it’s about stinkin time!
I’m so proud of Super Rockstar and all the guys in SofaKillers. It is a well earned recognition. There are no trophies or plaques handed out, but they’ll have bragging rights (and maybe more pay?) for the next year.
5. Treasure. I started seeing the signs a couple of weeks ago, but we hit our first garage sales of the season this weekend. We all came home with a treasure or two: Grayson just HAD to have a golf putting contraption and Morgan found a small brief case that he wanted. Garage sales are a great place for them to spend their allowance money and find stuff that will entertain them for hours. Plus, they are learning to negotiate prices–I feel so proud. Super Rockstar and I found some cool chairs that will be a fun summer project to finish.
I hope you have a great week!
