A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Summer Fun Begins. Summer break has begun and we are squeezing every drop of fun in that we can. Every year for the last day of school–I always pick up a few things for the boys to kick off summer break. This year I found a great 6-in-1 box of outdoor toys. It has badminton, volleyball, horseshoes, some frisbee games, and lawn darts. I also found an inexpensive corn hole game and then I always get new water guns and water balloons. We have had a blast trying them all out.
Another fun family activity has been a X-Box Kinect Sports game we purchased at a garage sale last year. We never used it because it was missing a power cord and–to be honest–I forgot we even had it. When it re-surfaced as I was gathering garage sale items, Super Rockstar was able to purchase the missing cord pretty inexpensively. I’m so glad he did. There is a variety of games to choose from and we have had a blast trying them out and laughing hysterically at each other as we play them. The boys both loved the soccer game, but check out Super Rockstar’s cat like reflexes with his boxing moves and my gazelle swiftness in my track race.
And we got our backyard pool set up. It took a while for our warm weather to finally show up, but we are soaking it in now. This is where you will find me for the rest of the summer if you need me.
2. A Breckenridge Getaway. Our first getaway was to one of our favorite spots in Colorado–Breckenridge. There is a favorite hotel we stay at about once a year called Beaver Run Resort. They have really nice suite type rooms with full kitchens, family room areas and separate bedrooms. We love the arcade games room, the swimming pools and hot tubs. We learned that early June is not the best time to visit–in that a lot of amenities (one of the pools and parking garage access) are in repair mode as they transition from winter tourist season to summer, but we had a good time and enjoyed a great kickoff to our summer break.
3. Super Rockstar’s Solo Gig. Super Rockstar has been doing music for a long time. He’s been singing in bands, writing and recording songs as long as I’ve known him (and long before that)–it’s a big part of who he is. He sings lead for his band SofaKillers several times a month, but this past week he was invited to do a solo gig–just him and a guitar– for Boot Barn Hall’s summer patio concerts. He’s been rehearsing for 6 months and was SO nervous about it. He did so great! We had a packed patio and all who came had a great time listening to him sing covers as well as a few originals. I am so proud of him! You can check out his music at timglennmusic.com .
