A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Ponderosa Camp. Grayson is in his last year of middle school and was thrilled to finally get to experience going to the Ponderosa Camp for 3 days/two nights of fun activities (It was cancelled due to Covid for the past two years). He had a blast–doing high ropes courses, ax throwing, archery, glow in the dark dodge ball and so much more. His favorite? Getting to drink as many Dr. Peppers as he wanted and eating tons of junk food. Sigh. I’m just glad he made it home in one piece.
2. Down Syndrome Association Walk. This is an annual fund-raising event for the Down Syndrome Association that we love participating in–and it took place in person for the first time in two years (they did “virtual walks” during Covid). Super Rockstar has been involved with this for 20 years–serving on the Walk Committee and being the MC for the walk itself. It was so great to see everyone and enjoy all the fun of being together again.
3. 28 years of us. I honestly can’t account for how Super Rockstar and I have reached 28 years of marriage–time has flown by so fast. I just know I wouldn’t want to do life with anyone else. No one will ever “get me” the way he does and I suspect it’s the same for him. I love him more than chocolate (most days) and he loves me more than his truck (I think). That’s all you need to know about us to see what true love really is.
4. Labor Day Getaway. It was strange to not go camping or to the mountains for Labor Day weekend this year. Instead, we decided to head up to Denver for a day of fun at Elitch Gardens Theme Park. It was nice and hot so we thought it would be great to enjoy the water park as well as the amusement park. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Apparently–we were not the only ones not going to the mountains. It was packed. Also–half the water park slides were closed down. Something about not having enough staff, etc.. (this has become a very tiresome reality of post Covid life). We had to wait for over an hour to go on one water ride. After we had lunch (which was astronomically expensive), we decided to try out some of the roller coasters. The lines weren’t really all that long, but the wait was. Again, many of the rides were closed because of staffing issues. We got to ride two roller coasters and it took us about 3 hours total.
It was way too hot and we just weren’t having a very good time–so we decided to pack it in and head to our hotel. The pool was nice and cool, the hot tub was relaxing and we didn’t have to stand in line for any of it. Perfect.
Since Elitch Gardens was kind of a bust, we decided to go to the Denver Downtown Aquarium before heading home the next day. I’m so glad we did. It was crowded, but not oppressively so. We enjoyed strolling through and taking our time looking at all of the wonderful sea life creatures–my favorite are the sea horses. All in all we had a good time. I’m just not sure holiday weekends are a good time for either of these attractions.
