A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Briarfest. This is an annual event put on each year by St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. They do it to raise funds to care for the needy here in Colorado Springs. There are carnival rides, food trucks (and funnel cakes of course), a bake sale, silent auction and live music each day. Being an outdoor event (and Colorado weather being its usual unpredictable self) –we keep our fingers crossed for good weather. However, the odds were not in SofaKillers favor this year. It was soggy, with drizzly rain and cold. I was amazed that it didn’t keep people away though. It wasn’t quite the crowd they’re used to for this event, but the hardy folks who came had a blast dancing in the rain. My boys loved the rides –especially since the lines weren’t very long.
2.Target Practice. Morgan is trying to brush up his skills for his very first ever hunting trip coming up next month. Since we don’t own a rifle or know much about where to go for target practice, our good friend Dustin helped us out. He took Super Rockstar, Morgan and Grayson to his favorite shooting range. They all got to shoot targets and even got to shatter a watermelon. They came home grinning ear to ear.
3.Annual Neighborhood Mom’s Back to School Celebration Lunch. We mom’s in my neighborhood have been gathering annually for lunch shortly after school starts for several years now. It started as more of a celebration that our kids were finally back in school and we had freedom from the daily stress of finding something for them to do. Now that the kids are all getting older and we don’t meet in the street as often–it’s become a time to catch up on each other’s busy lives. Tiffany, Sandy and I have been neighbors for going on 12 years, but we were so happy to include our “newbie neighbor”, Karen, whose kids are all pretty young. And one of our “seasoned” mom’s, Rosie, who moved to a different part of town, but is still very much part of our lives. This Mom thing is hard work and I am so grateful to have these gals in my life to encourage me, make me laugh, and give me a margherita on those tough days.
4. A Solo Gig. Super Rockstar got to have another solo gig at Boot Barn Hall for one of their Sunset Patio Sessions. I can’t say enough good things about this venue–check out their website for upcoming concerts. The patio sessions are great–they have fire pits, comfy seating and a good food and drink menu. Several SofaKiller’s fans as well as fellow band members came out to support (and heckle) him as he sang some originals and several cover tunes. It was a beautiful evening, and he did great. Check out his website–timglennmusic.com–to see his upcoming shows with SofaKillers as well as his solo gigs.
