A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Guys Only Getaway. Super Rockstar and our boys set out for their second annual “Guys Only Getaway” early last week. It’s a time for him to spend one on one time with them, teach them life lessons, do guy stuff and have guy conversations. He decided to invite my Dad to join them this year and they had a blast. They rented a cabin outside of Lake George, Colorado–which just happened to have a small zip line on the property that the boys loved riding over and over. They also went fishing, cooked meals together, and had great talks. I love that they get to do this.
2. Just the Gals. While the men were away, my Mom and I got to enjoy so many fun things together. Our first afternoon, we drove to the top of Pikes Peak. Years ago, we had attempted to hike it together, but only made it as far as Bar Camp (it was May and freezing cold with lots of snow). The drive was beautiful–with fall colors still in full swing. That last mile of switchbacks gets the ole heart racing with drop offs and no guard rails in some places, but we made it. The new Summit House is BEAUTIFUL! Gorgeous views from a gigantic two-story window, a wonderful cafe to get the traditional donuts and coffee (they have several other items to order too), and a cool museum and gift shop. It was a little chilly, but we enjoyed getting to walk the path around a bit before driving back down.
Our second day, we loaded our kayaks and headed to Palmer Lake. It was a bit windy and at times I was paddling so hard and still going backwards because of the gusts, but it was still really beautiful and fun.
We warmed up with some delicious French onion soup at La Tartine. So good! That afternoon, since it was such a gorgeous fall day, we decided to take our dogs over to Garden of the gods for a walk. We were not the only ones with this brilliant plan–I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many folks there on a Tuesday. But this year, we are having the most beautiful fall colors we’ve seen in years–I think we’re all trying to soak it in.
The following day, we headed up to the cabin to join the guys. We had missed our fellas and it was so great to see them and hear of all their wonderful adventures. We explored the beautiful property and then went to Eleven Mile Canyon to enjoy the scenery and get some fishing in.
This week was SO awesome with great memories to last a lifetime.
