A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. A Solo Gig at Notes. This is a new bar that opened up right next to Boot Barn Hall. They offer live music every weekend (and Wednesday nights too) and have a pretty nice bar food and drink menu. Super Rockstar got to do a solo show playing some acoustic covers and several of his originals.
2. Father/Son Hunting Trip. Super Rockstar and Morgan have spent the better part of this year preparing for a father/son hunting trip. They both took a hunter safety class back in March, got their hunting licenses and even both got tags for hunting deer. It all came together this past week as they went with an awesome organization called, Of Mountains & Men, to Hayden, CO for the official trip. It’s all fathers and sons (or mentors and sons)–they camp in tents (packed in like sardines), are paired with a guide for hunting, and then spend time around the campfire talking “man stuff”–discussing John Eldridge’s book Wild at Heart and Biblical truths about becoming men and what it means to be a man.
What an amazing experience they had. Morgan got his deer on the first morning of the first day. They have some funny stories about the “zombie” deer, but I’ll let them be the one to tell you when/if you see them. He wasn’t thrilled about the “field dressing” portion, but overall, he loved the whole experience and is already talking about hopefully going with his brother next year.
I am so proud of him for having a dream, setting a goal and achieving it.
3. Momma/Son Fun at Home. While big brother and Daddy were away–Grayson and I got to enjoy some time together. We went to his school Trunk or Treat–I wore a very lame costume, but still scored a big bag of candy (for Morgan, of course). We also went to Colorado Pumpkin Patch. Grayson mostly wanted to play in the laser tag arena, but we tried it all–the slides, the tractor train ride, the hay bale mountain, and a giant game of connect four. There’s a little something for everyone at this place–and the funnel cakes are especially tasty. My favorite part was just hanging out with him–he is an absolute delight to be around.
4. Pumpkin Carving. Our longtime tradition is to carve our pumpkins the night before Halloween while watching Nightmare Before Christmas. I don’t know that we actively watch the movie anymore–since we have it pretty much memorized, but we sing along to all the songs. I love it.
5. Halloween–It’s all about the candy. This year Grayson went as Engineer from a video game called Team Fortress. And Morgan went as a Pink Guard from Squid Games. He’s never watched the show–he just thought the costume was cool. Our neighborhood was very generous this year–since there weren’t very many trick or treaters overall–each house was just dumping handfuls of candy into everyone’s bag. It was fantastic.
