A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Another solo gig. It was time for Super Rockstar to play a solo gig at Notes again. It’s a cool place with a nice atmosphere. He did great and it was a really fun night.
2. Grayson’s science project. Grayson had an assignment involving simple machines for his science class. The instructions were to have at least 3 simple machines with 7 steps. I love watching his process. He started with a gigantic cardboard ramp (it took up our whole kitchen) with the idea of rolling a ball down, knocking over a book, that he hoped would squeeze a bottle into a glass. It didn’t work (I wish I would have taken pictures). But one thing I have learned about Grayson–he is not easily deterred. I encouraged him to think smaller scale and after about 10 seconds, he had a new plan. He pulled together a ramp, made some dominos out of Lego and came up with an idea that worked. He’s a bit like a mad scientist when it comes to projects, but I love watching him use his creative skills.
3. Morgan’s first flight. I mentioned a few weeks ago that Morgan has joined Civil Air Patrol. He goes to meetings once a week, but they also have tons of weekend learning opportunities. And since the whole idea is to eventually learn to be a pilot, they offer opportunities for going up in a plane every so often. Morgan got to go on his orientation flight this past week. It was he and one other cadet, and we got to listen in as the pilot spent time teaching about various parts of the plane. We watched them take off and they got to fly to an airport several miles away. Morgan got to take have his turn in the co-pilot seat and had control of the plane for about 20 minutes. I don’t think he stopped smiling for the rest of the day. I’m so proud of him for doing this.
4. Let the decorating commence. Every year we bring the boxes in and the task of getting all of the decorations in place seems impossible. I used to be a stickler for waiting until the day after Thanksgiving–giving judging “looks” at those that dared to start earlier. But, then 2020 happened–with Covid sucking the joy out of life and I think most everyone decided to decorate early that year. Now, I’m grateful to get it done early and getting to enjoy it as long as possible.
