A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Skating. If you are local and don’t already take your kids to Skate City–you should. There are two locations in town and we usually go to the one on Austin Bluffs. Our school PTO hosts regular discount nights and it’s always so much fun. Skate City does a great job of accommodating kids (and adults) of all ages with skate rentals(or you can bring your own) and even rolling support bar thingy’s so that beginner level skater can make a few laps without too many slips and tumbles. My boys LOVE it! The music is great, they host fun games to play and it’s a really good value for 2 hours worth of entertainment. Over the summer they have many discount days, classes, birthday parties and even hockey. Check out their website to learn more.
2.A Wax Museum. I love that my boys’ school teaches all about American History. Each year they focus on different aspects and for Grayson, (who is just about finished with 4th grade) they got to choose an early American “Hero” and do a report on that person. Then, they have a Wax Museum event where they get to dress up as their person and stand like a statue as kids and parents come to their classroom to push their “button”. When their button is pushed they recite a bit about their character. It’s a great way to not only learn about a person that was important to our country’s beginnings, but they also learn to do research, write a report and speak in front of strangers. Grayson chose Benjamin Franklin. On the day of the Wax Museum, he joked with his teacher that his Momma was coming to push his button–since he’s always pushing mine. Haha!
3. The BEST Wings. On our weekly lunch dates, Super Rockstar and I have several favorite places. One of them is a place his band SofaKillers plays regularly. It’s called Back East Bar and Grill. Super Rockstar considers this his own personal “Cheers” bar–he is well known by all the staff because of his band and also because it is a favorite lunch place. He walks in and everyone calls his name. His favorite meal? The wings. They truly have THE BEST wings in town in my humble opinion. Pair them with a basket of their fries (or side salad if you’re feeling like being healthy) and oh. my. goodness. So, so good.
4. Pikachu Detective Movie. If you or your kids like Pokémon–you all will love this movie. My boys were SO excited to go see it and it did not disappoint. They included SO many of the Pokémon characters and Ryan Reynolds did a GREAT job as Pikachu–so many funny moments and a good story too.
5. Mother’s Day. I love having a holiday just to celebrate our Mom’s and being a Mother. I haven’t gotten to spend too many Mother’s Days with my Mom during my adult years(too many miles between us and WAY to much business)–but I love that she and my sister and her family have a great tradition of going to brunch and celebrating the day together.
At my house it’s always different every year. Sometimes Super Rockstar and the boys have brought me breakfast in bed, sometimes I am sent away for a blissful day off–doing whatever I please, and sometimes–like this year–it’s just a wonderful day at home playing, getting my garden planted, napping, and just enjoying being loved on by my boys. I love the thoughtful gifts and the effort they all put in to make sure I know I am loved.
Have a GREAT week!
