A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Happy 2023! How is this new year treating you so far? I hope all is well and if it’s not–that it will be soon. There are three things that I seem to experience every January:
a. I make goals, to do’s and project lists of many things that I would like to accomplish in the upcoming year. By week 2 or so of said year–those plans have usually been shot down, destroyed, changed, and placed on the back burner.
b. We seem to always get a variety of illnesses throughout the month and spend most of our time at home. This has been just fine since this year– it’s snowed a lot and has been brutally cold.
c. I never stop being optimistic that things will improve and be more normal “next month.”
We did ring in this new year in superb style. SofaKillers played New Years Eve at Boot Barn Hall and put on a fantastic show. What a fun night!
2. A month of illness. January 1st, Super Rockstar awoke feeling lousy. It didn’t take long to pass it to me and then both boys got it. Super Rockstar had a sinus infection and both the boys had ear infections. But wait. There’s more. About a week later, Morgan was complaining of severe stomach pain. It was so bad he couldn’t sleep. We ended up going to the ER in the middle of the night. They checked him over and best they could tell–it was some sort of stomach virus. AND THEN, a couple weeks ago, I picked him up early from school on Friday because he had a bad sore throat. By Monday, he had a rash forming on his hands and face. What in the world? Diagnosis? Hand, Mouth and Foot virus. Have you ever heard of this in anyone besides babies and toddlers? Me neither, but here we are. He had to stay home for a week until the rash started clearing up. The fun part is that we learned it is highly contagious. Grayson now has it and he gets to stay home this week. Super Rockstar and I are washing our hands like crazy and praying we don’t get it too. But, like I said–I’m optimistic. February will be much better. Right?
3.Solo Gig. The SofaKillers guys got to take a much needed few weeks off after a very busy 2022. But, Super Rockstar got to do a solo gig this month at The Elks Lodge #309. What a fun time–a lot of friends, SofaKillers fans, and even some of the SofaKillers band mates came out.
4. Middle School Dance. In between illnesses, Grayson got to go to a middle school dance. It was a dress up affair and he was all decked out and looking sharp. I love that both of my boys like to dress up every now and then. When I asked him if he had fun, he answered: “Sure.” When I asked if he danced with any girls. He rolled his eyes. He told me all of the drama of how so and so has a crush on so and so and that whosee and whatit –the “power couple” (yes he called them a power couple)–were the talk of the dance. Middle school is hysterical.
5. The Gingerbread House Smashing. I mentioned back in December (you can read that here) that we attempted our first ginger bread house. Grayson ate the candy off of it, but mostly it just sat there getting more and more hardened until it was pretty near petrified. Super Rockstar has a friend that their annual tradition is to smash theirs to smithereens. Of course we had to try it.
