A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Our Last Science Fair. We did it. We made it. Our last science fair is finally over. These projects have been the bane of my existence for several years. Why? Because it’s parent homework. I know. I know. Science teachers are wanting to encourage students to not only embrace the scientific process, but to also teach them how to research, write essays, do experiments, and track the results. It’s noble. It really is. But, here’s the reality: the parents have to do most of the work, it’s messy, AND it always comes down to the eleventh hour the night before–slapping it all together with much weeping and gnashing of teeth (mostly by me). For his last one Grayson tested which brands of microwave popcorn have the fewest un popped popcorn kernels. The best part–we got to eat the popcorn.
2. An Epic Nerf Battle. Our boys have been begging us to do a family Nerf battle for a while now. We engage in these every so often and it’s always a lot of fun–once we get going. There is much prep work on the boy’s part. They gather all of their stockpile of Nerf guns, load them, set up barriers and get into their combat gear. They give Super Rockstar and I one weapon each–it’s usually the ones that jam or don’t shoot very far or are single shots that have to be reloaded over and over. Meanwhile they each have a dozen guns that can spray hundreds of bullets in a split second. The odds were not exactly in our favor.
We played 3 games of capture the flag. There were only 2 injuries (both Grayson and I got shot in the eyes–we’re both fine) and a few fights (the boys get so ramped up). Super Rockstar and I won 2 out of the 3 games–making us the champions of the universe. To be honest Super Rockstar won. I spent the majority of the time trying to unjam my pittance of a gun, track down bullets to reload and cowering when Grayson cornered me and I got bombarded.
3. Gig Night in Parker. SofaKillers has had a nice long break since their last gig, but it was time to get back to work. Tailgate Tavern is in Parker, CO and always draws a nice crowd. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there, but our good friend Amy Ash shared her photos –Thanks Amy! Looks like I missed out on a lot of fun.
