A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.The Gig–This past weekend Super Rockstar’s band, SofaKillers played at Cleat’s West. I’ve mentioned Cleat’s East before–so I’ll let you guess which side of town this one is located on. They were great as always, but I got a nice surprise when my man and the guys in the band gave me a “happy birthday” serenade.
2.The Birthday–It was a big birthday for me this past week–turning the big 5-0. I am not usually bothered by turning another year older, but I have to admit that 50 has a distinct “feel”. No more pretending that I still got it–I’m not sure I ever did and I certainly know I don’t now. Haha. I did enjoy my day, though–a nice bike ride in the forest and a sweet indulgence from my favorite coffee shop–the R&R Coffee Café. But, the best part is always the “birthday box” from Super Rockstar and my boys. I got spoiled rotten and I loved every minute of it.
3.The Last Game–It seems like I just shared how we had our first game of the spring flag football season. Now, here we are–already having our last game. It was SO cold and windy, but our team–The Barney’s–played their best game ever. Grayson even got to score his first ever touch down. I was so proud of all the kids on the team. In such a short time they really improved and played so well together. Super Rockstar did a great job coaching and Barney highly approved of his namesake team.
4.The Party–When Super Rockstar and I first started talking about me having a big birthday this year, I asked him to please not have a surprise party for me. It’s not that I didn’t want to celebrate–I just have a hard time when people go to a lot of trouble and fuss over me. But, as it got closer, he asked if we could just do a simple invite a few friends and have a cookout to celebrate. That sounded great to me–and it was. The cookout turned into more of a cook out/eat inside since it was so cold and cloudy on the day of. If you want to guarantee a bad weather day in Colorado–just plan an outdoor event. But, it all turned out great and was so much fun!
My boys and a few of their friends kept attacking us with sprays of nerf bullets, but my friend, Mary Kay, successfully stole a big chunk of their arsenal of weapons and bullets and then she and several others ambushed them and won victoriously. Who knew Mary Kay was a secret Ninja?
5.The Surprise–So, when I told Super Rockstar that I would prefer not to have a surprise party, he was fine with that. However, being the kind of person he is who loves to spring surprises–he took a different angle and gave me the best surprise EVER. Just watch here to see:
I haven’t seen my Chelle in so, so, SO long. Chelle and I met as roommates our freshman year at Baylor and were instant soul friends. I have never had a friend like her and will never ever be able to replace her. We hardly ever get to see each other and don’t even get to talk that often, but when we do– it is like we have never been apart.
I don’t know how he knew I needed this–but he did and it was the BEST! I have not laughed that hard in a LONG time. I feel so sorry for all the other folks in all the places we visited–they had no choice but to listen to our babbling and carrying on. The only time we were quiet was during our massages and facials and that was only because we were in separate rooms. Except they accidently gave me two right feet for slippers and we could NOT stop cackling about it.
I so enjoyed getting to meet her John too. Wait…that doesn’t sound right–her boyfriend, John. He, Super Rockstar, and our boys got to hang out while we girls got away and played.
I love my man A LOT, but him doing this for me has taken my love and appreciation for him to a whole new level. This is not only good husband stuff this is Best Husband in the whole universe stuff.
It was an amazing birthday week for me. Thank you to everyone who wished me Happy Birthday and made me feel so special!
Have a great week!
