A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Taste of Pikes Peak Gig. This was another new one for SofaKillers . It took place near the US Olympic & Paralympic Museum, and they got to play for the crowd of over 2000 people as they milled around and ate and drank all they could. Grayson got to come with me, and we had a blast sampling so many good things–juggling as many plates as could carry. Oh yeah–and enjoying listening to the music too.
2. Boot Barn Hall Gig. It had been a while since SofaKillers had played here–and this is always a favorite venue for all of us. I love how everyone hits the dance floor as soon as the music starts and stay the whole night to have fun.
3. A visit from my Bestie. My Chelle and her new husband, John came for a quick visit as they were passing through. It had been way too long (last I saw them was on their wedding day–3 years ago). As I’ve gotten older, I realize what a gift it is to have such a friend like her. We became instantly joined at the hip in college (she was my freshman year roommate) and we have been best friends ever since. There’s never enough time to spend together and I always cry big tears when we have to say good-bye, but I just love knowing she is there–only a phone call away to share all the good, the bad and everything in between.
4. Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer. We have enjoyed so many fun adventures this summer, but most of our time is spent hanging out around our home. God has blessed us big time with a home we all love, a lot to entertain us and a great neighborhood to enjoy.
Pool time. This is a daily favorite for all of us throughout the summer. The boys come up with games and splash around a lot, but Super Rockstar and I just enjoy floating around and relaxing (when the boys are not splashing around that is).
Learning to Cook. Both Morgan and Grayson asked me to teach them how to make some of their favorite meals–so this summer I had them help me out about once a week. They did really great!
Summer Movies. Our neighborhood movie theater has what they call Summer Movie Theater. Once a week they have a kid friendly movie to come see for only $1.50 and we got to enjoy several of them this summer. Plus, we caught all the new summer blockbuster movies as a family–Fast X, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Mission Impossible–Dead Reckoning Part 1 (we saw this one twice), and Indianna Jones and the Dial of Destiny. We had a blast seeing them all.
Morgan Learning to Drive. Morgan turned 16 back in March of this year but hasn’t been all that enthusiastic about learning to drive. We are slowly getting him used to sitting in the driver’s seat and will pursue driving school this fall. He’s doing well, but man is it scary to be in the passenger seat.
Working out. The boys have shown a lot more interest in lifting weights and getting in shape, so we decided to join the YMCA for the summer. It came with a free session with a personal trainer and I’m so grateful for the time she took to talk to them about fitness and showed them workouts to do. They were both nervous at first about being in a gym, but now strut around like they own the place.
Video Games. Ah yes. My boys–like every other kid on planet earth–LOVE their screen time. We limit it as much as possible, but it seems like more and more–them asking for 5 more minutes turns into more like 20 or 30. Oh well. It’s summer break.
Going to Garage Sales. This is a whole family fun event just about every Saturday. We hit as many of the neighborhood sales around town as we can or just follow the signs we see in our own neighborhood. Morgan and Grayson usually score some toys or cool gadgets, Super Rockstar is always looking for frames for his art, and I am almost always able to gather a lot of Christmas decorations and other household goods.
