A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.And now it’s time to say goodbye. Super Rockstar has been the lead singer for SofaKillers for over 14 years. Recently, he realized that time with our boys being home full time (they’re both in high school) is drawing to an end much faster than we can comprehend. He wants to spend as much time with them as possible, so he made a really difficult decision–that this will be his last year with the band. New Years Eve at Boot Barn Hall will be his last gig with them.
When he first shared the news on Facebook, it quickly circulated and even one of our local news stations did a story about it. He worked in television news long, long ago and it tickled him to no end–that he had become a news story (you can read it here).
As the reality is starting to sink in about how this will dramatically change our lives (especially the weekends) –I keep thinking about the Mickey Mouse show I used to watch as a kid. At the end of every episode, they always sang a song: “And now it’s time to say good-bye to all our family…” You remember the rest. That’s kind of how this is for us–SofaKillers has been a huge part of our lives and family for a long time and we will miss it. We will still be out supporting live music–including SofaKillers and whomever they get for a new lead singer, we will continue to enjoy all the wonderful friendships we have formed over the years, but most importantly–we can’t wait to have as many adventures with our boys that we can while we can.
2. The annual Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association Walk. This is such a fun annual event for us–Super Rockstar has been host/mc for 21 years. We love all the families and love being a part of this wonderful organization. Morgan and Grayson had a blast dancing, meeting some members of the Mountain Garrison 501st, and run/walking the whole loop. I enjoyed the walk (at a leisurely pace) and the food.
3. Briarfest Gig. This is a fantastic community event put on by St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church every summer. There are carnival rides, tons of food, a silent auction, and live music. SofaKillers has been their Saturday night headliner for the past 4 years. An enormous crowd showed up this year and the guys put on an incredible show.
4. Their First Win. Grayson’s football team got their first (and so far only) win of the season against Evergreen High School. I loved the drive to Evergreen–what a pretty town. It was so much fun to watch them celebrate after. It’s been a tough season so far for these mighty players, but I love what the coach told them earlier this week: “Winning doesn’t make you a winner and losing doesn’t make you a loser. It’s HOW you win or lose that matter.” Well said Coach!
