A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.A Civil Air Patrol Promotion. Morgan has been in Civil Air Patrol for about a year now. He just earned his second promotion and Grayson and I got to go see him be recognized. I love that this program has provided Morgan with an opportunity to learn about aerospace and even get some piloting experience.
2.Buzzed Crow Bistro Gig. This was a new venue for SofaKillers to play. It was a great night with great music and dancing AND they took the opportunity to introduce the band’s new lead singer, Stony Jamal. He sang a couple songs and Super Rockstar got a chance to experience the audience view. Stony will officially take over the mike January 2024.
3.Annual Neighborhood Mom’s Lunch. My good friends and neighbors, Tiffany and Sandy, and I (and sometimes a few others) celebrate the start of every school year (and freedom from having to find things for our kids to do) with lunch at Fuzzy’s. We were a little late since this year since Tiffany’s work schedule is so crazy, but we squeezed it in and I’m so glad. We have shared the highs and lows of being Momma’s of our own as well as each other’s kiddos for well over a decade now. We don’t get to see each other as often, but our get togethers are always full of lots of laughter.
4. First Snow. There are only two times a year we front rangers get excited about snow–the first one of the season and–if by some miracle–we get a white Christmas. Beyond that it’s a regular thing all throughout winter that sometimes gets us out of school or work but becomes a big nuisance by May. We were a little late getting our first one this year, but it sure was pretty. Barney and I just had to go out and stomp through it!
5. All the Halloween Stuff. We had a great time for Halloween this year. We’ve had a lot of activities going on lately, but we squeezed in all of our traditions in record time.
First up was the pumpkin patch. We didn’t have time to go to one of the “fun places” this year but picking one out of the large cardboard boxes at Walmart seemed too depressing. So, I found a roadside farmers market called Smith’s Market that seemed like a good compromise.
Next, was cookie decorating. As usual Grayson eats more of the frosting and sprinkles than what make it on the cookies.
And then Super Rockstar took the boys to see the Five Nights at Freddies movie. They have played the video game for the past couple of years and were both ecstatic when they heard about the upcoming movie. Apparently its now a “thing” to dress up for a movie that you have been anticipating and they both wore their fancy duds. Super Rockstar did not participate in the fancy dress, but it sounds like they had a great time seeing the movie.
Then we carved our pumpkins while watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. We don’t even have to watch the movie anymore since we have it memorized, but we all sing along and recite our favorite lines.
The boys both chose Star Wars themed costumes this year. Morgan was an Imperial Officer and Grayson went as a Storm Trooper. We bought the helmet, but Super Rockstar helped him design and make the rest of the costume. It turned out great!
And finally, we went trick or treating in our neighborhood. It was a rare Halloween with temps in the upper 30’s (as opposed to the usual teens and twenties)–so many folks were out and about. One of the houses in our neighborhood goes all out with decorations and even had a haunted trail this year. But most importantly, both boys got plenty of Reece’s peanut butter cups for me and Kit Kats for Super Rockstar.
