A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.The Hunt. Last year Morgan got to go on his first ever hunting trip with a wonderful group called Of Mountains and Men. Super Rockstar got to be there as he harvested his first deer, and it was a deeply meaningful father/son time (you can read about that here). This year was Grayson’s turn. He pulled a Cow Elk tag and again Super Rockstar got to be there–and Morgan got to go along too. They all had a fantastic time together with a group of 7 other young men and their dads or mentors. Grayson got his elk about mid-day on the first day–it sounds like it was quite the adventure. They had to trek through miles of snow and ice, stalking the herd and getting in a good position. There was a lot of frustration and then finally–success. The weekend was not only about the hunting experience, but also included meaningful discussions about responsibilities, developing good character, and what it means to be a good man. There apparently was also an epic snowball fight. They all came home dirty, exhausted, and grinning ear to ear.
2.The Momma Break While the boys were out on the hunt, I got to enjoy 4 days by myself. It is not often that I get time to myself in our home. It’s not often that I get time by myself–period. We are in that phase of life where we are all together all the time. I actually don’t mind and really enjoy it. That being said–I didn’t cry when they left. It was like a vacation. I slept in. I didn’t do any chores. I Lollygagged. I had forgotten what it’s like to do that. Barney and I went for a beautiful hike on a new to us trail called The Seven Bridges Trail. It was WONDERFUL. I watched movies and shows, and I even started a project (I’ll share about that soon). It felt good to daydream and have some space. But I have to admit–as soon as I saw Super Rockstar’s truck pull into the driveway, I jumped up and down in excitement–so glad to see my boys and my man!
