A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. The Chiefs! I am a Cowboys fan first and foremost. However, I am a Kansas girl and therefore also a secondary Chiefs fan. They’re my AFC team. And since the Cowboys haven’t given me much joy in many, many years–it’s nice to have someone to root for. Several years ago, we found some straws with all the NFL team helmets on them. Super Rockstar claimed the Cowboys helmet, I got the Chiefs, and my boys have teams they cheer for–Patriots for Morgan and Dolphins for Grayson.
Each week all throughout the season we raise up the helmets for the winners and lower down the ones for losses. And would you look at that? Who’s the only one left on top?
2. Fun nights with our boys. Every now and then we do separate “date nights” with our boys. I had to stop calling them ‘date nights’ because they are teenagers now, and everything we do or say as a parent is weird, awkward, and wrong. So now we call it “fun nights”. We let them choose a fun activity and then also make time for talking. This time, we were all interested in seeing the movie Argylle that just came out in the theater for our fun activity. So, we decided to go our separate ways for dinner and then meet up for the movie. It was my turn with Grayson, and we went to Chipotle. I never exactly know how “talk time” is going to go with him. He’s a jokester and has a hard time having serious conversations. But it turned out so great. All I did was ask him how he was doing? And he answered back asking “What do you mean–physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually?” I wanted to know all of the above. So, for the next hour–he told me all about each of those areas of his life. It sounds like Super Rockstar had a good conversation with Morgan too. And then we all ended up having a blast at the movie. My boys are growing up way too fast. I’m so glad that they still enjoy and even look forward to time with us.
3. Beautiful Snow. We awoke Saturday morning to a beautiful snowfall. It came down all day and it was like living in a snow globe. When it snows–I have to be out in it. Super Rockstar joined Barney and I for a walk in the forest and it was magical.
After the storm passed, of course we all had to go out and play. The boys built a huge snowman, and we all enjoyed a good snowball fight. The only downside for the boys was that it happened on a weekend rather than them getting a snow day. Oh well. They’ll be plenty of those. Come May–I will find these kinds of storms irritating as we wait and wait for spring and warmth. But, for now–it’s a very fun part of living in Colorado.
