A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Patio Chair Project. My neighbor recently cleaned out her garage and amongst her throw away/give away pile were some patio chairs. I’m always a sucker for a good fixer upper project, so I took them off her hands. I originally was just going to repaint and re-strap them–so I could sell or donate them. But as they sat in my garage–an idea formed. We were in need of a new patio sofa/loveseat combo. What if I could turn these 5 chairs into what we needed?
Step 1. Removing some of the arms. I basically took the chairs apart as much as possible and then used a reciprocating saw to remove the arms that I didn’t need. In hind sight–I really could have just done this without disassembling the chairs, but…oh well.
Step 2. Painting. I removed the old strapping and then spray painted the chairs black.
Step 3. Re-strapping. I found some replacement rubber strapping on Amazon. Putting it on was bit more tedious than I anticipated, and my hands got cramped from trying to stretch the strapping as tight as I could.
Step 4. Attaching the pieces. I originally tried holding the sections together by using leftover strapping with Velcro glued on. But ultimately that didn’t work out so well. So, I used zip ties instead. Also, Super Rockstar had to repair a couple of the bottom brace sections that I had accidently broken. Now all is sturdy.
Step 5. Cushions. Several places sell replacement cushions for patio furniture–At Home, Lowe’s, Walmart, etc… We ended up getting these seat/back combos from Big Lots–as they had the best price for what we wanted.
Step 6. Relaxing time. We tried them out in front of our fire pit (while playing Battleship) and I’m happy to say our new sofa and loveseat are really comfy. We also found a coffee table at Salvation Army and now have a great place to prop our feet too. Bring on summer. We’re ready!
2. Hail Damage Repair. Last summer we had one of our famous Colorado hailstorms. It only lasted a few minutes, but the golf ball sized hail did some sizeable damage to almost every home in our neighborhood. I am so grateful to our good friend and contractor Rich. He owns The Rich Company and worked directly with our insurance to get us a brand-new roof and all new exterior paint for our home (and very soon– new gutters and screens). It was so nice to have someone else work out all the contracting of labor and materials. All we had to do was endure some rather loud banging and a whole lotta mess when the roofing crew came. And some minor inconvenience when the painting crew did their thing. We are thrilled with it all–especially our new bright red door and shutters. If you have any construction projects or remodeling needs–I highly recommend The Rich Company.
3. Movies and Shows to Watch–Episode 89.
