A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. SofaKillers. At the first of this year, Super Rockstar handed the microphone over to a new lead singer for SofaKillers. We finally got to go see them live when they played at Boot Barn Hall last month. It was a lot of fun to be spectators, and it was great to see the guys and so many good friends.
2. More Summer Fun. We knocked some final things off summer bucket list. One was going to the mall just to goof around. There’s a couple of stores the boys always enjoy checking out and then there was some nostalgia in visiting the play area that we frequented when they were small.
At home, they combined a water balloon and light saber battle. It was a lot of fun to watch.
3. The Battle of Chernobyl Airsoft Event. Morgan’s been planning an airsoft event for this year ever since he and one of his friends went to one last year. American Paintball Coliseum hosts a major outdoor airsoft event every year in Broomfield, CO called The Battle of Chernobyl. It includes a Friday night game–with zombies chasing, overnight camping on their grounds after the games, and then all-day Saturday play. We had a sort of tent city set up with the four of us (Super Rockstar and I didn’t play–just spectated) and 6 of Morgan’s friends. It was an absolute blast for the boys.
4. Our last Summer Hurrah. After the airsoft event, we headed to a hotel and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This was our first time staying at a Drury Inn and I have to say–it was fantastic. This one was particularly family friendly and had a lot of wonderful “extras” including–two free drinks from the bar for the adults (after the airsoft event and listening to the rat, tat, tat of airsoft weapons for 2 days–this was sweet relief) AND they had a happy hour snack time–with all kinds of wonderful food and plenty of it. Breakfast was also included, and they had a fantastic pool and hot tub. The following day we got to enjoy a really fun day at Waterworld. This was our second time here as a family and it was so great. The day started off a little cloudy, but quickly warmed up and we loved going down so many fun slides and enjoying the day.
4. First Day of School…and so it begins. As with every year–the boys were not looking forward to school starting. I can’t believe Morgan is a Senior. It seems surreal that he is already at this point in his life. This year will be full of a lot of “lasts” and it’s hard on this Momma. I was with him as he did his last high school check in and took his last school photo. He also got to pick out a school parking spot that he will get to paint and personalized (photos coming soon), and we took his last “first day of school” photos here at home. I’m trying really hard not to be sad about this part of his life coming to a close, but I find myself tearing up a lot lately. It’s insane how quickly these years have flown by. Grayson is a sophomore this year. They both have started off really well, getting back into the groove of homework and such. Grayson has been busy with football and Morgan keeps busy with Civil Air Patrol meetings and his job at Dart Wars.
5. Good-bye Old Friend. I’ve had my Silver Jeep Wrangler for 13 years. It is the first car I’ve ever paid off and held the title in my hands. My boys were so small when we bought it (5 and 3), and it still had all stickers they put on the windows. It’s the longest I’ve owned anything, and it was really hard to let it go. But a new engine for a 17-year-old car just didn’t make sense for us at this time. This new fangle car will be good too. I have to admit it’s kind of nice to have all the fancy gadgets and to not feel like I’m driving inside a paint shaker with the wheels about to roll off.
6. A Solo Gig at Cave of the Winds and Grayson Overcoming His Fear. Super Rockstar got to play another solo gig at Cave of the Winds. Grayson and I got to enjoy listening to him play while Morgan was working a shift at his job. While there, Grayson decided to conquer a fear he’s had for a long time….heights. We all have done the Terror-dactyl ride at Cave of the Winds, but Grayson just hasn’t been ready. He decided that today was the day. He did it and was both terrified and thrilled at the same time.
7. My Favorite Memes of the Week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week.
