Coffee Break–Volume 195

Posted on July 11, 2025 by Jennifer Glenn

April is normally one of my favorite months of the year because–the boys’ birthdays are behind us, spring is on the horizon (here in Colorado–it’s a good month away weather wise) and things often seem less hectic. This year however, things were busier than ever. Here’s all we accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.

1.Grayson’s Birthday Party. We hosted a birthday party for Grayson at Main Event (it used to be called Summit). They have lots of arcade games, laser tag, bowling and pretty good food. Several of his friends (and his brother) came and all had a fantastic time. I love being around teenage boys because they know how to have fun–you just have to somehow block out all the potty humor and body odor.

2. Two Gigs and An Art Show. Super Rockstar had a busy first weekend of the month. Not only did we have Grayson’s birthday party, but he also played two solo gigs and participated in an art show.

–Phil Long Music Hall. His first gig was getting to be the opening act for Sheena Easton.  He played for about an hour doing his acoustic show and did a fantastic job. Then we stuck around and watched Sheena Easton’s show too. It was really good, and we had such a fun time listening to her sing songs that took me back to my 80’s pop big hair and lots of Aquanette days.

–The Art Show. It was held in the atrium of a local church with so many incredible vendors selling everything from candles, jewelry, clothing and original art. You can visit his website–timglennmusic.com to see his art store and make purchase of original works as well as prints of various sizes and cards.

–Angels Against Alzheimer’s Fundraiser Gig. Super Rockstar has sung at this event for several years. A long time he wrote a song about Alzheimer’s and each year they ask him back to sing it for their fundraising event. I’ve gotten to attend a few times now and love not only hearing him sing but sticking around for their casino night fundraising fun.

3. Track meets, track meets and MORE track meets. This was Grayson’s second year competing in track. He loves doing the sprints (100 and 200) and made several PR’s (personal records) this season. He also ran in the 4X100 and 4X 200. We made sure to purchase some comfy stadium seats for this year–as these meets can sometimes last upward of 5 hours or more. He got to win his heat in the 100 for one of the meets. It was so exciting to watch.

4. Prom. Morgan’s prom became a whole family event. My son has very specific ideas when it comes to fashion and he let me know that a plain ole tux rental would not suffice. We found a great jacket, shirt, and vest online but all needed alterations. So, I got out my trusty sewing machine and gave it my best shot. He was happy with it–which is high praise indeed.

He opted to go solo and looked so very handsome.

The Sophomores were asked to help with coat check and Grayson happily signed up. Since they needed parent volunteers to supervise, Super Rockstar and I went too. We loved seeing all the kids dressed so nice and acting all awkward. We enjoyed whispering our opinions of the various dresses, tuxes, date selection and anything else we could come up with. It was fun to have a front row seat.

There was an after-prom event at the same place Grayson had his birthday party (Main Event). We didn’t opt to stalk..er.uh…supervise that one, but it sounds like he had fun.

6. Re-Release of Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith. Our favorite movie theater (Icon Cinemas) often does re-releases and showings of older nostalgic movies. When we found out that a Star Wars one was on the list–we geared up and showed up. Our boys had never seen it on the big screen and absolutely LOVED it.

5. Easter. Easter must have been a little later in the month than usual because normally, I’m wearing snow boots with my Easter dress. This year I got to wear sandals. We had a great day of celebrating the Risen Savior–going to our church, coming home to hunt eggs (found all but one. again) and enjoyed a delicious ham, potatoes, salad and strawberry pie dinner.

6. Movies and Shows to Watch–Episode 99. Just click the link to read about all we enjoyed watching (and some we didn’t).

7. Books I Read. I’m still making my way through the Sue Grafton alphabet series that I shared about in Coffee Break–Volume 194. (you can read that here). I read D & E–both are very good.

8. My Favorite Memes.

As always, I would love to hear from you.
