May took my breath away. This month always has two of the most important celebrations of the year: Mother’s Day…and my birthday. That alone is a lot. But this year we also celebrated an enormous milestone for my first born, Morgan. He graduated from high school (sob!). There was so much going on all month long–very busy but very good.
1. The Coop Gig. Super Rockstar got to play a solo gig at The Coop. It’s always so great to see our favorite bar owners–Sherri and Art, and it was a fun night.

2. Last Day of Highschool for Morgan. Morgan’s last day of high school included: Not having to attend school (although he opted to go because he wanted to thank some teachers and fellow students that had shown him kindness), walk in the senior parade (it started at the elementary school and traveled up through the middle school and then the high school with students and parents lining the sidewalk to cheer them on) and lastly a final school assembly. He didn’t want to do the parade or assembly, but he begrudgingly participated since–a) he was already there and b) it was a photo op for his Momma.

3. Morgan’s High School Graduation. Because high school was not fun for him, and because he has a lot of his daddy in him and does not thrill in being in big crowds, and because he just wanted to be done with all the stuff–Morgan begged not to have to participate in his high school graduation. I explained (probably not very gently) that the ceremony is not for him–but for his parents and family. It took a lot of bribery, blackmail and some not so gentle nudging, but he finally agreed to go through with it. As soon as we got him past his reluctance–he allowed himself to enjoy it. We even got to see him dance his way into the auditorium (see the video), walk across the stage, and proudly show us his diploma afterward. That made it all worth it. I was SO glad his grandma and papa, and Aunt Stephie and Uncle Todd got to come. Afterward we celebrated with a huge Chipotle feast at home (one of Morgan’s favorite restaurants) and later in the week we had an open house where so many good friends of ours came and showered him with a lot of growth in his bank account.

When folks tell you how fast your kids grow up–I always believed them, but I still cannot wrap my brain around just how fast it went. This photo from his kindergarten graduation took place just yesterday in my mind.

I wish I could go back and slow things down, do things better, and somehow make time to pause here and there. But God has him on a forward path and he is moving toward it whether we’re ready or not. We are so proud of him and can’t wait to see where life takes him next.
4. Mother’s Day and My Birthday. With all the end of school and graduation hub bub, Mother’s Day just blew by. Super Rockstar and my boys made me beautiful cards and gave me flowers and a gift card for a mani/pedi. It was WONDERFUL!

My birthday was so awesome–Super Rockstar always knows how to spoil me rotten. I got to do a scavenger hunt to find my birthday box that was packed full of all my favorite treats, snacks and drinks. I had long been needing a new laptop which I received along with several other wonderful gifts. And of course, awesome cards from he and my boys. 56 years doesn’t seem so bad after all.

5. The Final Mission Impossible Movie. Mission Impossible: The Final Reconning is absolutely fantastic! It is the perfect action-packed ending to one of my all-time favorite movie series. I felt like giving it a standing ovation when the credits rolled. We all enjoyed it so much we saw it twice in the movie theater.

6. Air Force Graduation Flyover Gig. We have long enjoyed going to Super Rockstar’s workplace each year to have virtually front row seats to see the Air Force Thunderbirds do an amazing air show at the completion of the Air Force Academy graduation. It’s such a big deal in our city-folks tailgate, host workplace picnics and the roads are lined with cars parked on the sides of the roads to catch the amazing flyovers. This year Super Rockstar was asked to play a solo gig at Phil Long Music Hall on their patio. They anticipated that it would be a great venue for folks to gather, hear some live music and then watch the air show. It would have been amazing…if the weather had cooperated. It rained the entire duration of his gig. Super Rockstar played and sang his heart out for us (our boys and I), the wait staff, and one hearty customer who came too. He did such a great job, but in the end, the flyovers got canceled anyway. Oh well. Maybe next year will be better.

7. Movies and Shows to Watch–Episode 100. Just click the link to read about what we watched in May.
8. Books I read. It was such a busy month so I only had time to read one of the books from the Sue Grafton Alphabet series–F is for Fugitive. I really am enjoying all of these.

9. My Favorite Memes.

If you need me–I’ll be curled up taking a long summer nap. Ha! I wish! As always, I would love to hear from you.
