A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Date Nights with our boys. Every couple of months or so, Super Rockstar and I like to take our boys on a date. He will take one and I take the other and then next time we switch. We usually let the boys pick their favorite fun thing to do (movie, bowling, game place, etc) and then we take them to dinner so we can sit down, enjoy a meal and talk. This was my turn with our younger son, Grayson. He wanted to see Secret Life of Pets 2 and it was great fun. Everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy a movie with Grayson–he gets SO into the movie–laughing out loud, shrieking with excitement and is fully animated throughout. I laugh harder because of all of his antics.
2. Fun with a friend. I mentioned last week that Grayson made a new friend at Church Camp. We invited Joey over the following week to play for a couple of hours and he and both my boys had such a great time. From the moment he arrived to the second he left it was nonstop action–swimming in the pool, trading Pokémon cards, playing with Legos and Transformers and swapping stories. I heard the word “Dude” at least a thousand times while he was here–“Dude, check out my Palkia card”, “Dude, have you seen Avendgers Endgame?” “Dude!” Dude?” “Dude”
3. Grandma and Papa’s house. My parents live in a smallish town in Kansas and we go to their house twice every year–Christmas and 4th of July. In the summer they have an awesome city pool that we all love going to (my boys refer to it as “Grandma and Papa’s pool”). They both worked up the courage to try out the high diving board for the first time and LOVED it– they must have jumped off at least 100 times. It’s so much fun to watch my them overcome and conquer their fears and especially to have Grandma and Papa cheering them on.
4. 4th of July fun. Being at Grandma and Papa’s house is always special–there are cool closets to explore, reclining chairs to play in and the lightening bugs come out at night. For 4th of July my sister and her husband usually come too and we enjoy a feast of grilled steaks, corn on the cob AND the most important part of the meal–homemade ice cream. All the guys usually take turns cranking and it always tastes SO good!
But the BEST part of 4th of July in their town is getting to go buy fire works and set them off in front of their house. Morgan and Grayson LOVE the tanks, smoke bombs and sparklers. Super Rockstar and Uncle Todd light em all up and then proceed to create epic battle scenes–the tanks battling each other with smoke bombs in the background and then blowing them all to smithereens with firecrackers. I usually breath a sigh of relief when it’s all over that we made it through another year without anyone blowing an appendage off.
5. The Golden Jacket. While Grayson was at church camp last week, Morgan and I had some time for just us. That doesn’t happen very often and I really wanted to come up with something we could do together. He mentioned one morning about how he really wanted a metallic gold suit jacket ( a friend has a silver one that he really liked). So, I thought this might be a good opportunity to teach him to sew and show him how to make his own clothing. I admit, it was a VERY ambitious first sewing project, but he helped cut out the pieces and stitched a few seams. All and all it was good mother/son bonding time. I learned that teaching someone to sew is a lot harder than just doing it myself and he learned that Momma is pretty handy with fabric and also knows a lot of swear words he didn’t think she did (sewing is not for the faint of heart). He is thrilled with it and even left me a sweet note in my kitchen made out of pipe cleaners that says “Thank you so much Momma for my coat!”
Have a great week!
