A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Earnin some dough. We always have our boys do regular daily and weekly chores around the house, but they have now reached the age where their smallish allowance for doing these chores ain’t cuttin it. They want to earn MORE. Since child labor laws prevent us from sending them out into the work force just yet, we have been trying to come up with some bigger chores they can do to earn more money. This past week they got to wash both our cars. Slinging soap soaked wash cloths, scrubbing off the grime and especially spraying the cars (and each other) with the power washer didn’t even seem like work to them–they had a BLAST! Earning money for doing it made it even sweeter.
2.A stay at a fancy place. Super Rockstar was required to go to a conference up in Denver for a couple days recently and we got to tag along. The conference was held at the Gaylord of the Rockies. Oh my goodness it is nice. From the time we arrived, to the time we left–it felt like a vacation. The BEST part was the pool area. They have a great indoor pool–complete with two water slides, a fountain splash area and a huge hot tub. And THEN they have an amazing outdoor pool that has a smaller water slide, there’s another huge hot tub, and they also have a lazy river to float around in. Even though Super Rockstar was stuck in meetings most of the time–the boys and I had a blast.
3. Barney’s Birthday. We have officially had Barney for a year now. Since his exact age is unknown, we decided to celebrate his 8th birthday on the anniversary of the day we got him. He got all of his favorite things–some bacon treats and a new duck toy to chase and “kill” (he destroyed his last one). We also got him a gift for us–some treats that are supposed to fight doggie bad breath (please Lord let these work!)
We sure have enjoyed this past year with our sleeps all time, has a mind of his own, loud snoring, my constant shadow stalker, quirky, loves being with his family dog.
4.A milestone anniversary. Super Rockstar and I just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. It is SO hard to believe that not only have we been married for a quarter of a century, but that we could be old enough to be married for a quarter of a century.
My parents were gracious enough to come watch(spoil rotten) our boys so we could get away for a day and overnight. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together–just us. We did so many things we love–going shopping, staying in a nice hotel (with an incredible view and chilled champagne waiting thanks to my romantic man), having a really nice steak dinner and then going out and listening to some live music and doing a little dancing and playing pool. The BEST part was sleeping in until we woke up.
A getaway is so nice every now and then, but I love our crazy life together and our rambunctious boys. Here’s to us and to many more years together.
5.BRIARFEST. I know I say it about a lot of Super Rockstar’s gigs–but Briarfest has got to be my absolute favorite. This is an event that happens every year and is hosted by St. Gabriel The Archangel Catholic Church. Proceeds benefit Catholic Charities of Colorado–most notably the Marian House soup kitchen. Oh my goodness this is such a fun event. They have all the carnival rides, game booths, food trucks, a beer tent, craft booths, a silent auction, and so much more. AND they support live music. Super Rockstar’s band, SofaKillers has played their Saturday night music event for four years now.
The crowd for the gig was so much fun this year–they showed up early and stayed late, the dance area was PACKED and everyone had a great time–the guys put on a really good show. A big hit was the glow bracelets they threw out into the crowd during their second set this year. Morgan and Grayson even got to earn a couple of dollars helping assemble them.
I hope you all have a great week!
