A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Fall Break Time. What is fall break? It is the two week break that our school district gives us (when the weather has started turning cold and unpleasant) INSTEAD of the two extra weeks of summer break (when the weather as warm and glorious) that we would rather have. Oh well, a break’s a break and my boys are LOVING not having to go to school. The first thing we did was a little shopping for some new winter clothing–which they desperately needed. Finding stuff to keep em busy (and not driving me insane) for two solid weeks will be a pretty big challenge. Stay tuned to an upcoming post where I share what we found to do.
2. Preparing for Change. We’ve lived in our home 9 years now. During those nine years my boys have gone from tiny toddlers to much bigger boys. Our home has taken a pretty big toll during these growing years–especially our floors. Spilled juice, muddy shoes, coffee stains (okay, that one’s probably me)–there is no end to the beating these poor floors have taken. It became apparent this past year that they are beyond cleaning and since one can only purchase so many area rugs to hide stains–we decided it was a good time replace them all.
I’m pretty excited, but it’s quite the project to take on. We’ve had to move ALL of our belongings out of the way so the old stuff can be ripped out and the new stuff can be installed. I don’t know what has stressed me out more–moving all the stuff out or the realization that we have WAY too much stuff to move out.
3. A good time to paint. Since we are getting new flooring, we decided it would be a good time to re-paint the boys’ bedroom. There are no words to describe how grossly dirty their walls were. I try to keep a clean house, but their overabundance of stuff was cleverly concealing the disgusting petri dish of filth that had formed.
I can’t tell you what a pleasure it is to paint walls without ANY concern about spills and drips. I’m not a neat and tidy painter–I usually end up looking like I’m wearing more than actually makes it on the wall. Normally any tiny drop of paint ending up on the floor would cause me extreme anxiety, but with this old stuff getting ripped out in couple of days I’ve had the incredible joy of spilling and dripping without a care in the world.
4. A fun party. We were invited to a party this past week and since Super Rockstar didn’t have any gigs–we got to go. Laurie and Ben hosted a karaoke party in their beautiful home and it was an absolute blast. Super Rockstar was not the only one with some pretty good pipes. It was a lot of fun to watch everyone take their turn on the stage–although Elvis was a bit of a stage hog (give someone else a turn Elvis!).
Hope you have a great week!
