A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Family Fun. In the few days we had before the end of our Christmas break, we tried to squeeze in as much family fun as we could. We decided to try out a new place that has opened up recently called Gaming To You. It’s a HUGE indoor play place that includes laser tag, dart gun battles, video games, ping pong, air hockey, and pool. Their prices are very reasonable (all 4 of us played for an hour for $20) and we had a great time. They also do birthday parties and corporate events AND they have a mobile gaming center you can rent for parties at your home or office.
2. Ringing in the New Year–SofaKillers style. New Year’s Eve means a couple of things to my family. For my boys, it means they get to drink sparkling apple juice, wear New Year’s Eve hats, and have noise makers. For Super Rockstar and I it means his band, SofaKillers, is playing somewhere and it’s going to be a late, rowdy night. This year they were at Back East Bar and Grill–always one of our favorites. The guys put on a GREAT show, I had a fun time dancing with some of my favorite people, and welcomed in the beginning of another new year. We then spent two days recovering. Ah…the rock star life.
3. Dart Warz. Since Morgan and Grayson got some new nerf guns for Christmas, it seemed only fair that they get to try them out at their favorite battling spot–Dart Warz. I have talked about this place before–what a genius idea that I wish I had come up with. It has two awesome arenas complete with barriers, shields and even a faux tank to hide in. The staff does a great job of keeping the games going (each battle lasts about 5 minutes or so), the music is so loud it feels like you’re in an action scene from a movie, and my boys always have an incredible time. Adults can play too, but I’m not a cool Mom–I like to sit in the lobby reading. And then I get to “Ooh and Ahhh” as I hear a play by play (complete with reenactments) of each battle.
4. Tidying up. The final frontier before my boys headed back to school was getting hair cuts. We have gone to numerous places over the years–including my friend, Carrie, who has been cutting my hair for a couple of decades. We love Carrie and would definitely go to her all the time, but her location is on the other side of town and since I always haphazardly decide when the boys need haircuts (it’s usually when I can’t see their eye balls anymore), I needed to find a place closer to home that we could just drop in. Super Rockstar goes to Sports Clips and he has taken the boys there a few times. They love it, but it costs a fortune (especially since they insist on getting the shoulder massage and hot towel treatment). Recently, a friend told me about a place called Kiddie Kutters. This place is MADE for kids. They have a fun play area to entertain them while you wait AND (the best part) their prices are very reasonable–$12.99 for a kids hair cut. They also do adult cuts and have hair coloring service as well.
Welcome to 2020! I hope you have a great week!
