A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Winter Camp. My older son, Morgan, got an opportunity to go to a church winter weekend camp last week. One of his good buddies invited him and since the camp was taking place nearby (a place called Ponderosa–the same camp he’s been to before)–we decided to let him go. Why oh why do I keep doing this to myself? This is the 3rd time he’s gone on overnight camps and I will tell you something–it is NOT getting easier. They don’t allow cell phones for the kids and there is zero contact (unless they choose it) from the time we drop him off until we pick him up. Even though I know he’s probably safe and having a good time, it’s agonizing to not see him or hear from him. Thankfully his friend’s mom was one of the chaperones on the trip and let Morgan use her phone to call and let us know he had made it safely to the camp. And yes, he had a really good time.
2.Honey hole. It’s been a while since I’ve gone dumpster diving. I have written about my trash diving for treasure before (you can read about that here), but I’ve been trying REALLY hard to restrain myself for a couple of reasons. #1 We don’t have the space to keep storing all my “treasures” until I sell them or find a place to use them and #2 it’s become more work than I have time for these days. However, as I was taking the boys to school this week, I spied a “honey hole”. A honey hole is a large stash of goods that someone has sitting out in front of their home that they are throwing away. It’s free for the taking and as we drove by, I saw a large number of items I knew I could immediately put on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist and make a few bucks.
Poor Barney. He’s never been along on one of my hauls before and didn’t seem to understand why he all of a sudden didn’t have much space left to sit. Don’t worry–we were only a mile (or 2 or 3) from my house. I’m always grateful when I don’t get pulled over and am able to make it home safely.
3.Taekwondo. While Morgan was away at camp (and breaking my heart), we signed Grayson up for Taekwondo–he’s been begging me forever. We chose Tiger Rock Martial Arts because they offer a free class and then you can sign up for a one month trial for $80. During that month you can go as many times per week as you want. I like that we didn’t have to sign a contract or commit to several months (a lot of places you have to sign up for a MINIMUM of 6 months). So far he’s having a great time.
4.Treadstone. A new show we are enjoying is called Treadstone. It airs on the USA channel and we are currently able to stream their first season on Direct TV. It’s based on the Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum. We’ve watched 6 episodes and it’s VERY good.
5. Bible Study. For several years now, I’ve signed up for Bible studies at my church twice a year. This semester we’re doing a Jen Wilkin study called God of Covenant. We did the Part 1 of this study a year ago called God of Creation which is based on Genesis 1 thru 11. This one picks up where that one left off and will cover the rest of the book of Genesis. I’m really looking forward to it and, of course, I love the group of ladies with whom I get to discuss the study and share life with.
