A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Snow, snow and more snow. If you’re needing an update on our Colorado weather (I’m from Kansas–it’s what we do) –it snowed….again. This week we had one snow day where the school closed and there was barely an inch in most of the city. The next day was a delay because it was 0 degrees. Okay fine–it’s brrr cold. Last I checked we live in Colorado where that’s supposedly expected. Two days later we got over 8″ at our house and our school was open for business. I give up trying to figure out what closes things down around here or not.
2. Science Fair. It’s that time of year again–the Science Fair. Or as I like to call it–Parent Homework. It was Morgan’s turn this time. I honestly never get used to how difficult his teachers make it each year–it seems like he is (we are) required to do college level thesis research and reports. Morgan (and I) did a really good job with his this year–and his project was perfect for him. He wanted to know if his more action oriented video games made his heart rate go up. He hypothesized (eh? like my fancy sciency word there?) that they would make his heart rate go down. He was right–2 out of 3 of them did. I love the exercise in teaching kids the scientific process, I just wish they would not make it so over the top and stressful. I didn’t like homework when I was in school. I certainly am not happy about having to do so much with my kids.
3. A fun new gadget. My Mom got a new Apple Watch for Christmas and decided to give me her old one (thanks Mom!). This, folks, is something I didn’t know I needed until I had it. I LOVE it! It is so handy to just be able to look at my wrist to check messages, answer a phone call, and, oh yeah, check the time. Plus, it has a built in activity tracker. I don’t know HOW it knows when I’m jogging or walking outdoors vs. being indoors on my elliptical, but it does and records my progress. The only thing I’ve found a little annoying is the “remember to breath” thing. I haven’t figured out how to silence it, but it’s pretty startling when it automatically starts up and I feel this thrumming in my wrist as I’m supposed to be breathing in and out.
4. Yes, we found another new show to watch. The same channel (Paramount network) that brought us Yellowstone (which we absolutely LOVE) is airing a new show called 68 whiskey. We are about 5 episodes in for this first season and have really enjoyed it. It’s centered around an army base medical unit in Afghanistan–there’s a lot of drama and some humor, but it’s very adult–so I don’t recommend it for kids.
5. Some after the snow storm fun. If it snows and there is more than 3″, we are required (by law, I think) to go play in it. I got to go for a GORGEOUS snow shoe trek and then later went sledding with the boys. One of my favorite things about living in Colorado is that we get these gigantic dumps of snow (that we all grumble and mumble about), but then the following day when the sun is shining and the temps have warmed up–it’s PLAY TIME!
Hope you have a good week!
