A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Grayson’s Birthday. We got to celebrate Grayson’s 11th birthday–it was WAY back on March 30th (like a million years ago now). It was a little sad that we couldn’t do his traditional party with friends, but Grayson has a natural born contagious joy and the ability to just roll with it. He had a great day and we had fun celebrating him.
2.The PERFECT outdoor/get exercise activity. Like many of you, we’ve been trying to get a lot of outdoor time in to get our wiggles out and avoid “cabin fever”, but our boys are often resistant to anything they might deem too stringent (anything that takes more than 10 minutes). In the past when I’ve asked them to go for hikes–there would be much weeping and gnashing of teeth but, a couple of years ago we discovered geocaching. It is the absolute perfect way to go out for a hike and do something fun at the same time. If you’re not familiar–think of it like a treasure hunt. You sign up at geocaching.com (it’s about $10 every six months) and then you can download the app. It’s really easy–on any given trail (and even throughout neighborhoods) there are so many to hunt for. Just click on the one you want to search for and it will tell you which direction to go and how far. It will usually get you within about 10-15 ft (give or take) and then it’s a hunt to find it. Some are teensy (micro size) and others are large and will have little toys in them that your kids can take (It’s suggested that you leave something too). We’ve run across a few tricky ones, but there are often hints given to help you out.
3. Online school. I have to give a huge shout out and props to our school for how well they have adapted to this whole “monkey in the wrench” that was thrown at them with so little time to adapt. We’ve been at it for two weeks now and, so far, it’s been pretty smooth. I’m grateful that all the teachers have kept it pretty simple, I LOVE that our school is only doing 4 days a week (Tues-Fri), and it’s been so great that most of them have a “google meet” once or twice a week so that the boys can not only connect with their teachers, but catch up with friends too.
4. Westworld. This is a really creative HBO show that is now in it’s 3rd season. It’s all about a futuristic theme park where the guests can live out fantasies in various “worlds” (it mostly focuses on the old west world, but there are many others) with hundreds of lifelike animatronic “hosts”. The “hosts” have become very self aware and in this season some have escaped into the real world. I’ve really loved this series, but this season has been a bit heady at times and it is sometimes difficult to follow. Also, this is a very adult show–so I don’t recommend it for kids.
5. A gig at home. Super Rockstar has had to get pretty creative on how he does gigs. This week he was able to do a Facebook Live concert–just him and a guitar performing 7 songs he has written. It was awesome! He just set up in our music room and as he was serenading an online audience, I was getting my own private concert right here in our home.
I hope you have a great week!
