A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.A fun thing we did. I realized last week that even though we are all VERY much together every day–my boys and I aren’t connecting very much. When they aren’t doing school, they immerse themselves in playing, I get busy doing my stuff and we were barely talking to each other all day.
So, I decided to implement a half hour momma/son play time for each week day. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but I’m trying my best to be “fun Momma” more often. We are taking turns each day and Morgan started us off by setting up an all out Nerf war–including a toast before the battle. He even let me have some guns that actually work and didn’t get jammed (gasp)–it was a blast!
2. Shows we watched. We started watching a show called Ozark (it airs on Netflix) last year and got to binge watch their first 2 seasons (don’t you just love binge watching?). They just came out with season 3 and we are nearly finished with it. Jason Bateman is the director and main character of the show. It’s a really good story of an accountant who gets tangled up with working for a Mexican drug cartel. To save himself and his family, he moves to the Ozarks and sets up money laundering operations. It’s a little stressful at times because there’s a lot of family tension, they are constantly in danger, and there’s a lot of characters you love to hate. In other words–it’s great!
3. Movies we watched. As a family, we are still watching all of the Avengers movies in chronological order (I wrote about that here). This week was Dr. Strange and Black Panther. So, so good.
Super Rockstar and I continue to struggle with finding something to enjoy. This week we went old school and watched the 1963 Jason and the Argonauts. It’s one of Super Rockstar’s all time favorites and he loves all of the stop action animation. I love all of the cheesy over acting–it’s just fantastic.
3. Projects I worked on. The weather has been SO gorgeous lately, so I finally decided it was time to get outdoors and begin the long arduous process of trying to revive my yard. Step one is aerating and raking up the dead grass. Ugh! I do not enjoy this even a little bit. Our ground is as hard as granite and it seems like it takes way too much time and effort to get this done. I’m always so glad when it’s over with.
4.Books I’m reading. I’m an avid reader and usually have several books going at any given time. I like to have one to learn something from, a self help/spiritual based one, and some sort of fiction. My learning book right now is Plot & Structure by James Scott Bell. Since I am trying to learn the craft of writing and have hopes to write a book soon–this one came recommended by a respected author I follow. It’s been very helpful so far.
For my self-help/spiritual based I am reading a book called When Your Best Isn’t Good Enough by Dr. Kevin Lehman. A friend posted about him on social media a while back and I am hooked. He is a noted psychologist and is also a Christian. He has dozens of books on parenting and self help and I have learned SO many great things that I have been able to implement into my life.
And for my fiction selection–I’m still reading Brisingr by Christopher Paolini (the Eragon series I wrote about here ). It’s good, but VERY lengthy–it’s going to take me a while to finish.
5.Memes I loved this week. This week has been particularly good with so many to choose from. These were my favorites:
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
