A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Mother’s Day. I had the BEST Mother’s Day this year. We got to go do something I’ve been longing to ever since the temps started getting warmer–go FISHING!!! Super Rockstar and I have a favorite spot we’ve been going to since long before our boys came along(Shh. It’s a secret place) (Well, not really a secret place because there were A LOT of other people there) (It’s Deckers–we LOVE fishing the South Platte River. Just don’t tell anyone else) . It was pretty windy–getting our lines to land in the water was a sport in and of itself. It was a great day to be out in the river swinging a stick, getting tangled in the surrounding brush, cursing about getting tangled in the surrounding brush, and not catching a single fish. But, like Super Rockstar always says “A bad day of fishing is better than any day at work” Amen.
2. Movies we loved. We continue our quest to watch all of the Marvel movies in order and this past week was Thor Ragnorok and Avengers Infinity War. Both of them were so great. I had forgotten how much humor there is in them. We are nearing the end of the saga with just a few left. This has been really fun and I have to admit the movies make a lot more sense when you watch them in their timeline order.
3. Let the summer fun begin. The boys’ school has officially ended and our summer break has begun. One of my traditions is to get them some fun summer toys to officially kick it off. They had a blast playing water balloons, bubble guns and water guns. Day 1 down, 82 days to go.
4. A show we are enjoying. Do you remember that old 1960’s TV show Lost in Space? “Danger Will Robinson!” Well, Netflix has revamped it and it is GREAT! There are two seasons to enjoy and we have absolutely LOVED it. So far, the Robinson family has avoided being killed by an alien robot, drowning in a freezing lake, being eaten by gigantic bat like creatures, and being hurled through the void of space with no fuel. And I thought my life is stressful. It might be a little intense for younger kids–but otherwise definitely great for the whole family.
5. Birthday Celebrating. I celebrated my 51st birthday this week and–once again–Super Rockstar and the boys did a great job of making it special. We have a family tradition of doing “birthday boxes” (all gifts plus several treats all in one big box) For our boys birthdays we always do a scavenger hunt with as many clues as the age they are turning (11 years old–11 clues to find their box). Super Rockstar set up a scavenger hunt for me with my first clue telling me there would be 51 to find. I couldn’t even imagine there being 51 places to hide clues in our home. Thankfully, it was just a joke and my second clue led me to my birthday box.
I love ALL of my gifts and treats, but the best one was a special surprise Super Rockstar gave me. My most favorite books in the whole wide world are the Sherlock Holmes stories. I have read them all dozens of times–to call me a fan is an enormous understatement. He found a website called dearholmes.com. They sent a beginning letter where I am welcomed as a consulting detective. I’ll be given a different case each month to help Sherlock and Watson solve for the next 3 months. I can’t wait! I’ll let you know how it goes. The game is afoot!
6. My favorite memes of the week
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
