A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Drones. We were out doing one of our favorite summer activities–going to garage sales–a couple of weeks ago and my youngest spied a box that contained a really cool looking drone in it. The lady selling it noticed his interest and told him he could have it for free. She explained it was missing some stuff and she wasn’t at all sure if it even worked. His face lit up like Christmas. This is a boy after my own heart–he lives by my motto “If it’s free, it’s mine”. After a little tinkering and a few fiasco’s Super Rockstar was able to help him get it to fly. Now, both my boys have “drone fever”. There was quite the contention when youngest didn’t want oldest to play with it, so Morgan just ended up spending some money he had been saving to buy one of his own. So far, they’ve only landed on one roof top, but just to be safe–we take them out to a large wide open space to fly them now.
2.A “glamping” camping trip. A couple of years ago we tried out a camping spot near town called Jellystone. We had such a good time–mostly because they had golf carts to tool around in and a fun swimming pool. This was the year of one of my many famous “bloopers” (you can read about that here). Last year they were shut down to renovate, but have opened back up now. Wow! If you have kids–this is a GREAT place to go. They have two amazing swimming pools PLUS a fun splash area with slides, putt putt, a play ground, “mining” for rocks and– when a pandemic is not happening–a restaurant, gym, and an arcade with a bowling alley. They also have fun activities daily–like carnivals, a petting zoo, crafts with Yogi and Booboo and many, many other fun things–there was even a live music concert one night.
It’s not a “typical” camping experience–as in there are no trees. At all. (they’ve planted some small twigs that will potentially be trees in about 20-30 years). RV’s are stacked side by side with virtually no privacy in between– so you get to know your neighbors really well. But, the sites are very level and clean with a propane burning firepit and full hook ups, they have nice restrooms with showers, and golf carts you can rent. There’s also some pretty nice looking cabins that we might look into renting next time. A downside is that it’s right next to the interstate and the train tracks. If you have a good fan–the noise at night won’t bother you, but there is a 4am train nearly every day that comes through rumbling and whistling to its hearts content.
All in all, it’s a great experience. We’ll definitely be back.
3.The birthday boy. While we were camping, we got to celebrate Super Rockstar’s birthday. It’s a little tricky to pull off our birthday traditions remotely, but we did it as best we could with balloons, streamers, cake, and a birthday box full of treats and gifts. Lounging by a pool and enjoying a beautiful Colorado day ain’t a bad way to celebrate a birthday I’d say. He got to try out his “big” birthday surprise (a new bicycle) when we got home.
4. Yellowstone. The Yellowstone TV show is one of the best out there in my opinion. It’s on the Paramount network and now about halfway through their 3rd season. It has Kevin Costner as a gigantic ranch owner in Montana and all the ins and outs of ranch life and holding on to a property that everyone seems to want to take away. It’s has a lot of adult content and is pretty “languagy”, but I just love it. My favorite character is his daughter Beth. She is in charge of mostly the business side of things and is a feisty ruthless bad%#$ that has softer side too–she is my current hero in life.
5. My favorite Memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
