A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.Books I’m reading. For my self help/inspirational book I just finished Jesus the One and Only by Beth Moore–it is a great book tracking the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. I thoroughly enjoyed it. For my learning book, I’m reading one called Getting Into Character by Brandilyn Collins. It’s all about what writers can learn from pro tips given to actors. And for my fiction, I’m working my way through some Agatha Christie books I purchased at a garage sale several months ago. I read The Murder At Hazelmoor and am almost through The Moving Finger. She truly is the “Queen of Crime”.
2.Movies we’ve enjoyed. We have found several movies lately that we have enjoyed. A family movie we loved this past week was The One and Only Ivan. If you haven’t seen it yet–it’s only on Disney Plus and it is GREAT. It’s based on the true story of a gorilla named Ivan who was part of a mall circus show. It’s a wonderful, feel good, uplifting, funny movie that is clean and is perfect for kids(and adults) of all ages.
Super Rockstar and I also found a handful of movies we enjoyed. The Old Guard with Charlize Theron is a creative story about a handful of people that have a super human ability to re-heal when wounded and can live hundreds of years. They use their abilities to be vigilantes. It has a lot of great action with the typical hero/villain story. There is a lot of bad language and a very obvious homosexual relationship depicted. It also has quite a bit of graphic violence–I wouldn’t recommend it for kids.
We also watched Eurovision. This is everything you have learned to expect from Will Ferrill–silly, stupid, over the top and fun. It’s based on an actual singing contest in Europe and I guess a lot of the “acts” depicted were from original real life showings. If you are looking for a lighthearted comedy that has no point to it what so ever–this is perfect. As far as for kids–there’s some iffy adult situations that I don’t think are appropriate and there’s some bad language.
By far, my favorite movie we watched was 6 Underground. If you love action–this has a 30 minute opening scene that is over the top, heart pumping, enormous body count, fast paced, chomp down a whole bowl of popcorn without realizing it –action. It has Ryan Reynolds as the main character–being very much the character we’ve come to love him being. He plays a billionaire that has faked his own death and recruits other mercenaries to do the same so they can take down a brutal dictator. I definitely don’t recommend this one for kids. It has a really high body count with some gruesome death scenes, some adult situations and A LOT of bad language. I know you must be questioning my moral compass right about now–but I can’t help myself–I love a good action movie.
3. Date night. Super Rockstar and I haven’t had a date night in months. Now that restaurants are re-opened (although limited capacity) and movie theaters are starting to show movies again (we don’t care that they’re re-runs)–we decided to venture out for some just us time. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed re-watching Wonder Woman in the theater.
4. A Beautiful Song. I’ve told you many times about Super Rockstar’s band, SofaKillers. They play cover tunes from various bands and do just about every genre. But, did you also know he writes and performs his own songs? He has 3 albums of songs he has written and recorded and in these past few years has written several that he plans to record soon. This is a beautiful one he performed for Facebook this past week. It’s called “Song For the Angels”.
5. My Favorite Memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
