A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. A Really Good Show. Have you heard about a new show called The Chosen? I had been seeing ads for it on my Facebook feed and then had several friends recommend it. It’s a show about the life of Jesus and His disciples–but it’s so different from anything I’ve ever seen regarding this topic. It’s written and directed by Dallas Jenkins (son of Jerry Jenkins– author of the Left Behind books). I am SO impressed with it. You can stream episodes from YouTube.com or also there is an app you can download and watch all of season 1. There’s an opportunity to contribute financially so they can get started on Season 2. We have really enjoyed it so far and highly recommend it for the whole family.
2.An unexpected brush with the virus. I mentioned recently that my boys got to go back to school at their school. One of the “gifts” of this pandemic has been growing an appreciation for things that we’ve always taken for granted. This past week, my older son was sent home unexpectedly because one of the kids in his class had “Covid-like symptoms”. It meant that he had to revert back to e-learning until the child in his class got a negative test. Morgan took it really hard and was so upset about having to be home sitting in front of a computer again. I took it hard because it meant I needed to plant myself at home too (what about my trails? my hikes/runs?, doing errands at a leisurely pace?). Once again, it meant that we had to re-adjust and be flexible with unwanted changes that never seem to cease. Thankfully, the negative test result came back quickly and his group will get to go back on Monday. It’s another harsh reminder that this virus is going to be messing with our lives for a long time to come.
3. Books I’ve read. I had my usual 3 categories going again–For inspirational/self help I read Beautiful Battlefields by Bo Stern. Wow. Her husband was diagnosed with ALS and she writes of her experience of receiving such devastating news and her journey of all God taught her in the midst of facing such a battle. It’s REALLY good. My learning book was one I have tried to read 3 times and have had a hard time finishing. I finally finished it. It’s a book on blog writing called Problogger by Darren Rowse and Chris Garret. It’s all about how to start a blog, write a blog, and make money from writing a blog. I have a mental block for anything having to do with technology and since this book is all about things that have to do with learning the technical aspect of blog writing–I kept getting lost. Even though I finished, I can’t honestly say I learned more than I already knew–except maybe a lot more terminology that I’m hoping to some day understand. And for fiction I am still enjoying a small collection of Agatha Christie novels. I finished Cat Among Pigeons and Destination Unknown.
4. Movies to watch. With Super Rockstar pretty immobile as he recovers from his knee surgery, we are staying home more than usual and watching a lot of shows and movies. We found a couple of good family movies to enjoy this week. The first one is Secret Society of Second-Born Royals. It’s about the second-born siblings born into royal families. They discover that even though they don’t get to ascend to the throne, they have been given a special gift in life–super powers. It’s a creative story and enjoyable for the whole family–you can find it on Disney Plus. The other one is an oldie, but a goodie called Sahara. It has Mathew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz, and Steve Zahn and is about a fun adventure of a treasure hunt with good guys and bad guys. The side story includes a spreading illness that has some disturbing images of those that are sick–so I don’t recommend it for littles. It’s a fun adventure and we really enjoyed it.
5. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
