A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.A day to myself. At the beginning of the week, I looked ahead and realized that my boys were only going to have 3 days of school and then be off for 2 1/2 weeks for fall break. I looked at my rather lengthy to do list, weighed my options and decided to take a day to myself. Just me– going and doing whatever I felt like doing. It. was. GLORIOUS. I started off with a gorgeous drive on Gold Camp road–the fall colors are in full bloom and it was just beautiful. Then, I spent some time just driving around to various shops and areas of town I hadn’t been to in a while (complete with a stop for coffee and a donut) (gotta keep my strength up, you know). I ended with a delicious lunch at La Tartine. It was JUST what I needed. I highly recommend mental health days–especially when facing 2 1/2 weeks of listening to bickering over which Transformer (Starscream or Bruticus) is better or which Beyblade (Bloody Longinus or Nightmare Longinus) will win.
2.End of 1st Quarter and Teacher Conferences. We survived our 1st quarter of this very strange school year–it started with e-learning, transitioned to in person (they have to wear masks and stay in cohort groups), and ended with both my boys having the best attitude about going to school I’ve witnessed in all their learning years thus far. My oldest was actually sad–sad I tell you–that it was time for fall break. It’s a world gone crazy folks. As per normal–we had teacher conferences (outside wearing masks) where I got to hear about my boys behavior and school habits. All of my older son’s teachers gave him kudos for a MUCH improved attitude and willingness to do his best this year (Yay Morgan!). As for my younger son, Grayson, well.. his teachers all were in consensus–he is a good student, but he talks too much. Catch me as I faint from surprise.
3. Fall Break Begins. So, for the next two weeks, I get to try to find fun things to do for our fall break. Since most everything we usually do is closed due to the virus–it should be an interesting time. So far my boys bought some toys with their saved up allowance money, set up a Transformers battle scene, and– in an effort to find that one special weapon they needed to complete their Transformers scene–took out each and every toy they own and didn’t put it back. My basement is now smothered in Lego, Transformers, Beyblades, and goodness knows what else. When I told them that they would need to clean it up, they screamed in agony–going through all the stages of grief (shock, denial, anger….I’m still waiting on acceptance). This is going to be a real hoot.
4. A movie date night. Super Rockstar and I got to go on a date night this week. We decided to go see the movie Tenet. What is it about? I’m glad you asked–I have NO idea! I watched 2 1/2 hours of high energy, action packed drama and the plot line hurt my head. It has to do with time travel, but not really time travel–it’s INVERTED time (I have no idea what that is!). The characters tried to explain it, but they were speaking with British accents–and since movie theaters don’t put closed captioning on the screens all I heard was a lot of mumbling (why can’t they just ENUNCIATE?). What I grasped is that the good guys won (I think) and the world was saved from catastrophe (thank goodness), but I will only be able to give an honest revue of this movie when I’m able to see it at home with closed captioning on and many pauses as Super Rockstar and I discuss (debate) over exactly what the heck is going on.
5. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
