A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. The Zoo. It’s our school’s fall break and even though a lot of our favorite places to go are closed due to Covid–our zoo, thankfully, is open. We had to make reservations and wear masks inside the buildings, but other than that it was as much fun as it always has been. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is so unique and wonderful. It’s built on the side of a mountain, so there’s a bit of hiking up hill involved, but it’s so worth it. We’ve been coming here since the boys were little bitty and they have done so many wonderful upgrades over the years–including a brand new new Hippo/Penguin area. We loved it all.
2. So many good movies. We’ve hit a jackpot of good movies this past week. As a family we watched The Addams Family (the animated one that came out in 2019)–it is really well done and kids of all ages would enjoy it. It has all the favorite Addams Family characters and a fun plot line too. We also watched Unbroken. My older son, Morgan just finished reading the book at school and they had watched part of the movie, so he wanted to see the whole thing. What an inspiring story–and so well done too. It’s appropriate for older kids, but I definitely don’t recommend for younger ones–there’s some hard to watch scenes when he is a POW.
Super Rockstar and I also found a couple of good movies to watch. The first one was Unstoppable. We had seen this one years ago, but wanted to watch it again. It’s about an unmanned runaway train and all the efforts to recapture it. It is SO good–lots of great action and man– it’s intense! I highly recommend it. We also watched Aeronauts. It’s about a hot air balloon pilot (aeronaut) and a man that is pioneering the science of meteorology. It’s a great adventure movie to watch. I think kids would enjoy it too.
And finally, Super Rockstar watched Invisible Man. I do not like scary movies–so I sat this one out. He really liked it a lot and said it’s pretty intense.
3. Getting stuff done. With fall being here and winter just around the corner, I realized it is now time to get our home and cars ready for the colder weather ahead. Up first was getting our sprinklers blown out. This is a bit of a tricky thing timing wise in Colorado. Since our temps go from the 80’s during the day and can dip all the way down to the 20’s over night–it’s a bit of a gamble deciding how far into the month of October one should go. Normally, I’m a push it until the last possible second kinda gal, but with this year being as it’s been–I guess I just felt the need to be a little more prepared.
I’ve also started my fall house cleaning. This is never a pleasant task, but it has to be done. A few years ago, I wrote a blog post about it–you can read that here.
And lastly, I got a new windshield for my jeep. This past year was particularly rough on the old gal with a crack that ran across the whole length. Plus, I had so many dings–it looked like stars shining in the day time. Oh. my. goodness. What a difference it makes to have a brand new one. Did you know that you can see the sky from inside your car? I had no idea.
4. Cookies! Making pumpkin shaped cookies and decorating them is one of our many Halloween/Fall traditions. This year there were two of us who took great care and time in making creative masterpieces and two of us who spent more time eating the frosting and sprinkles than decorating our cookies. I’ll let you guess who was who.
5. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
