A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. We finished it! Long, long ago (back in May), we decided that it would be a “fun idea” to do a puzzle as a family (you can read that here). Oh. Have. Mercy. We were so young and naïve then. How could we know how foolish this idea was? We are not family puzzle type of people. This is what this virus does to you–it makes you think you are something you are not. The good news is–we FINALLY finished. The other good news is that we all know we will never, ever do this again.
2. Grandma and Papa visit and a LONG overdue trip to Great Wolf Lodge. WAY back in March, my parents asked if the boys would enjoy an overnight at Great Wolf Lodge as their birthday gifts this year. Yes, of course –that would be awesome! So, they booked the rooms and we were all set. Of course the virus spoiled that plan. My boys were disappointed, but assured that as soon as all this nonsense passed–we would re-schedule. We tried again in June– made the reservation, but at the eleventh hour–it too was cancelled. Curse Words! AND THEN–the same thing happened in August. We were losing hope as our October reservation neared and it seemed that every day we were hearing that Colorado cases were on the rise. We braced ourselves as the day approached, but thankfully, all went as planned and we got to enjoy a fabulous overnight with all the bells and whistles. The boys were thrilled that our room came with their own “room” complete with bunk beds and a television just for them.
We had a blast with my parents spoiling us all–we slid down every water slide (Mom and I did them all), enjoyed the wave pool (even Super Rockstar was able to get in for a bit as he’s still recovering from his knee surgery), the boys did the Magi Quest game, ropes course, climbing wall, putt putt, mining, bowling and we all had a great time.
3. A favorite park. As we are about to wrap up fall break 2020, a trip to one of our favorite parks was a definite must do. Our weather has been absolutely gorgeous and it was fun to get out and about, play with a few other kids and enjoy the day.
4. What we watched this week. We found a pretty good family movie for this week–It’s called Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box. You can rent it on Amazon Prime and I thought it was really good. It has to do with a bad guy’s search for a treasure called the Midas Box. Two brothers get caught up in the mess as they are trying to find their parents who were taken by the bad guy. They find out that their parents are part of a secret society that protects powerful treasures. There’s a few intense scenes that might be scary for young kids, but older ones would really enjoy it.
Also, as a family, we are re-watching the first season of The Mandalorian. If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet–drop what you are doing and sign up for Disney Plus so you can. I can’t even begin to tell you how cute baby Yoda is, PLUS it’s a really great story with a lot of good action. The new season starts this Friday, so we are re-watching season one to be ready.
Super Rockstar and I found a really good show this week called The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher. It’s a BBC series from 2011–there’s only 4 episodes, but each is about the length of a movie. It’s a lot like an Agatha Christi Hercule Perot novel and we really enjoyed the intrigue and drama. I’m really looking forward to watching the next 3.
5. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
