A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. The outside décor. Every year there is a battle in the Glenn household and every year it results in the same outcome. Super Rockstar declares that this is THE LAST YEAR he will be putting up Christmas lights on our house. There is a lot of grumbling and swearing as he climbs up and down the ladder to get it done–so much drama. After several hours (All day, Jen!), it looks wonderful, we enjoy it, he takes it down in January, and then when late November hits–we go through the exact same cycle. I always wonder–does he really think it isn’t going to happen? or does he finally just relent because he knows full well that if he doesn’t do it–I will. Either way they look amazing and I always appreciate it.
2. So much to be thankful for. Thanksgiving was just us this year and we enjoyed all our traditions. I bought the newspaper to go through the ads for Black Friday shopping (it was awfully thin this year), the boys and I watched part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade (it just wasn’t the same without all the crowd and noise), and then we had football on all day (The Cowboys lost. sigh.). The best part of our Thanksgiving was our feast. Super Rockstar makes THE BEST giblet gravy you’ve ever tasted. We ate a TON and it was fabulous!
But, the best part of our feast was that my older son, Morgan, wanted to be sure that we followed our tradition of going around and telling each other what we are thankful for. My son. My beautiful boy took several minutes to tell each of us individually how much he loves us and is thankful for us. I have always known he has a big, sensitive heart– but as he’s entered his teen years, he’s become much less expressive. This was the best gift and I get teary eyed just thinking about it. I will hold that memory in my heart for the rest of my life.
3. What we watched this week. It should now officially be time for movie theaters to re-open and start showing new movies again. Of the thousands of choices on Prime, Hulu and HBO–Super Rockstar and I couldn’t find anything that we were even remotely interested in. We finally settled on one that we honestly couldn’t remember if we had seen it or not. It was about 15 minutes into the movie that we remembered we had watched it before, but neither of us could remember how it ended–so we enjoyed watching it for the first time….again. It’s called The Numbers Station and has John Cusack in it ( I love him as an actor). It’s a really good story about a hitman who gets demoted to a code sending facility and some bad guys infiltrate the place. I enjoyed it both times I’ve seen it. I wonder if I’ll remember the plot line in a few months when we are in the same boat of looking for something new to watch?
For family movies we watched more of the X-men series of movies: X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: Apocalyspe. We’ve had to skip several on the list because there were too many adult situations, the violence was too intense or had content we don’t approve of. These are all appropriate for tween/teen age–there is some bad language and some intense scenes, but they were all pretty good stories with good action.
4. My favorite memes this week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
