A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Snow and SLEDDING! We had a few fun things happen this week: my parents came for a visit, it snowed and we got to go sledding. It wasn’t much snow and it was SO cold, but my Mom, the boys and I to got to make a few runs down our favorite sledding hill. We had a blast!
2. Cookie Decorating. My parents also got to join us in one of our favorite Christmas traditions–sugar cookie baking and decorating. Ok, well it’s one of mine and my boys favorite tradition. Truth be told–the boys just like to eat the frosting, but it’s still something I insist we all do every year and my parents were happy, albeit forced, participants. There was a lot of creativity this year–my Dad made a lovely wreath, Mom had some cute candy cane’s, Super Rockstar had a great Santa, Morgan’s elf head came off–but he was very pleased about that, and Grayson made a Baby Yoda (Baby Grogu–we know his name now). Mine are not necessarily notable for their appeal aesthetically, but with a nice thick layer of frosting and plenty of sprinkles–they are super tasty.
3. What we watched. Super Rockstar and I watched a couple of movies this week. The first one was called The Doorman. The previews looked really good and it has Jean Reno in it. But, the lead character is played by Ruby Rose and–to be honest–I wasn’t thrilled. It had some good action here and there, but overall it was kind of dull and a little cheesy in places. It’s rated PG-13 and it would have probably been ok for my teen/tween boys. It has some violent and intense scenes, but they would have loved the teenage boy that helps the “hero” save the day.
Another movie we watched was really good. It’s called An Inspector Calls. It’s about a woman who has committed suicide and an inspector comes to a wealthy family’s home to notify them. None of them claim to know her, but it is revealed throughout the movie how each of them contributed to her depressed state and eventual death. It has some twists and surprises and is very good.
As a family we watched Bridge of Spies. Morgan has been studying the Cold War and his teacher recommended this as a good one to watch. The boys haven’t seen many drama type movies, but they really enjoyed it. It’s a really good depiction of what it was like during the Cold War and made them both sad to see the devastation of communism.
We also watched Black Beauty. It’s a new one on Disney Plus and it is SO, so good. It is also more of a drama type movie–Super Rockstar said it’s kind of like the horse version of Forest Gump. About 30 minutes in both Morgan and Grayson were demanding to know when there would be action. Grayson asked incredulously “Isn’t ANYONE going to get shot?”. We may need to re-think the type of movies we watch. They ended up enjoying the story, but didn’t think it was exciting enough AND they weren’t fans of the girl/boy stuff (gross Momma!).
And finally, we watched one of our favorite Christmas movies–Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. I absolutely LOVE this movie–Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern’s schtick is just hysterical.
4. Indoor sledding. The snow melted away pretty quickly, so since my boys were in the spirit of sledding–they found a way to do it indoors. It’s NEVER boring in our home. Messy? Yes. But, never boring.
5. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
