A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Fieldtrip. I got to go on a fieldtrip with my younger son, Grayson, to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. If you have never been–I HIGHLY recommend it. We spent 4 hours there, but it could easily be an all day adventure. His class has been studying about the heart, lungs, blood vessels, and blood cells so they got to participate in a special class in learning more about these things and dissecting a sheep’s heart. Grayson was willing to watch the instructors demonstration, but declined to do his own dissection. I don’t blame him–it was pretty yucky.
The rest of our time, my group tried to squeeze in as many of the exhibits as we could–the dinosaur one is always a favorite.
2. Birthday Boy. March is birthday month for us. My boys were born 2 years and 9 days apart. Older brother Morgan’s birthday comes first (on the 21st). This is excruciating for Grayson–who not only is the younger brother, but has to endure the agony of celebrating his brother’s birthday first. Oh the drama.
We go all out in celebrating birthdays–decorating our home with streamers and balloons, little Debbie chocolate donuts for breakfast, and handing out treats for classmates at school. This is his first year having a locker at school and I thought it was so cool that a couple of his friends decorated it for him. After Super Rockstar gets home from work there is a scavenger hunt to find their presents, a big “Birthday Box” which contains their gifts along with all their favorite treats and snacks (this is a tradition Super Rockstar grew up with), and then dinner out at their favorite restaurant.
Morgan loves a place called Musashi Japanese Restaurant. It’s one of those places where they cook the food in front of you and the chef puts on a bit of a show. He LOVES the rice and he had a great time being celebrated.
3. Birthday Party. When the boys were little, we could get by with having one big party to celebrate their close together birthdays. But, as they got older, they really wanted to do their own thing (oh joy). So, as to not break the bank, we alternate every year having a party at home and having it at a special place. This year was Morgan’s turn to choose a place away from home and he chose Trampoline World. This is a GREAT place to wear your kids out. They have lots of trampolines, swinging ropes over foam pits and even harnesses if you want to practice flips. They have open gym times every day and it’s for all ages. He and his friends had a great time jumping and running around. I got tired just watching them.
One of my favorite parts of their parties is that we have many friends and neighbors that come each year–it’s a great time for us to reconnect, catch up on our lives, and reminisce about when our kids were much, much smaller. Sigh.
4. Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I can’t recommend this movie highly enough. I’ll be honest–after seeing the previews, I had kind of “meh” attitude about it. But, the boys were insistent about wanting to see it, so we relented and watched it as a family this weekend. Awesome. It’s just awesome. The animation is incredible, the story is great, I absolutely LOVED it. Also, it’s very family friendly–there’s a couple of bad guy characters, but not too scary at all and it’s clean–no curse words or derogatory material at all.
Hope you all have a great week! See you next time for Coffee Break.
