A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. All done with school! The 2nd quarter of school has officially ended and my boys are on Christmas break. Both of them are VERY happy to be done with all their work. For their last week Grayson finished a science project–a diorama of a weather system. I thought it turned our really great! And Morgan decided to participate in one of the “Holiday Spirit” days. It was wear white day and it was a perfect opportunity to wear his Star Wars scout trooper costume. I think he’ll always be looking for excuses to wear this costume.
2. A nice gift. Long ago my parents made a flower box out of an old window and I have long admired it. So, when we had a shed built this past summer, I knew immediately what I wanted to put on the side. They made one for us and brought it when they visited last week. I just LOVE it! I can’t wait til summer so I can plant some real flowers in it. I hope I can keep them alive (fingers crossed).
3. What we watched. So, I’ve mentioned before how we are scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to movies. But, each week, we seem to be able to find a couple more that we haven’t seen and that look good. The first one we watched is called The Sound of Metal. It’s a movie about a drummer for a heavy metal band that loses his hearing and has to learn how to be deaf. He also is a recovering drug addict and so his girlfriend convinces him to go to a deaf community that is also for recovering addicts. He learns sign language and how to communicate, but struggles accepting what has happened to him. It was interesting, but kind of slow moving. I do think they did a great job of depicting what a person probably goes through when they no longer can hear.
We also watched a movie called Next. This one has Nicholas Cage in it and is REALLY good. It’s about a man who has the ability to see what’s going to happen in the future–but only his future and only about 2 minutes ahead. The government finds out about his gift and so do some bad guys– both are trying to get to him. I thought it was very good.
With the boys we watched some Christmas movies. They absolutely love How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the Jim Carrey one). Jim Carrey as the Grinch is a role he was made for. It’s pretty goofy and funny and I am SO impressed at how they brought the Dr. Seuss characters to life. I think it’s appropriate for kids of all ages. There’s some crude humor here and there, but it’s pretty mild and I only heard two curse words.
We also watched Rise of the Guardians. It’s been years since I’ve seen this one–and I just love it. The boys like all of it except two parts. They don’t like the back story of Jack Frost (it’s kind of sad) and some of the parts with Pitch Black (the bad guy boogey man) seem kind of mean to them. When they were little, they were kind of scared of his character. I think this one is good for kids of all ages too, but some littles might be bothered by the same things my boys are.
4. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
