A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.A Beautiful Day and a Visit to the Park. The boys got new bikes from Grandma and Papa for Christmas and with our recent snow storms, they haven’t been able to try them out. One of their last days of Christmas break, we took advantage of a beautiful day and rode down to our favorite park.
2.Dart Warz! We were SO excited to find out that our favorite (and only) Nerf gun battle arena opened back up. Both boys got new Nerf guns for Christmas and were very anxious to try them out. They both got Prometheus Rival guns–these babies hold 200 nerf balls and fire out so rapidly you can’t even see them. And Grayson got a Perseus–also a Rival one that fires the Nerf balls. All I can tell you as that it HURTS to get hit by this one. I was so relieved for them to find other people to play target practice with.
3. Snowball Baseball. This was their last week of on-line school–they get to go back to in-person next week (praise God!). During one of their breaks this past week, they enjoyed playing snowball baseball. I’m guessing they won’t get to do this at school.
4. Origami Turtles. I just love our new middle school science teacher. He is very engaging to the students and comes up with fun projects for them to do too. This week, he taught them how to make origami turtles. Grayson–who loves a good ‘making things with paper’ project when he comes across it–wasn’t content to just make one. He made a whole army.
5. What We Watched. We have watched so many movies this past week (actually two weeks, I think) and I had a hard time remembering all the titles. Here are the ones that I do remember:
Siberia. I’m gonna give this a solid “nope”. It has Keanu Reeves–which is good. And when we watched the trailer–it looked intriguing. But, it’s not. It’s one of those movies that you keep watching in hopes it will get to the big moment–and it never does. It’s slow moving, has a pointless story and there are a lot of sex scenes that are completely unnecessary (I’m not sure what constitutes a necessary sex scene–I can just tell you the ones in this movie were completely random). Definitely not one for the kids and I’m not so sure many grown ups would enjoy this one.
Safe. This was good. It has Jason Statham and he helps a little girl with photographic memory escape from the Chinese mafia. The Russian mob is also pursuing and trying to capture her so they can use her gift for criminal activity. It has really good action and is a good story too. I don’t recommend it for kids–there’s a lot of foul language and adult situations.
Redemption. This is another pretty good Jason Statham movie. It starts with him as a homeless man who forms a friendship with a nun who feeds the needy. We find out he is ex-military and in the course of the story–he finds work as a collector for a mob boss. But, things get interesting when one of his homeless friends is murdered and he goes after her killer. It’s more of a drama with some actions scene. Again–not one for kiddos.
The Double. This was really good. It has Richard Gere playing a CIA agent. He is working with the FBI to hunt down an Soviet Assassin that was long thought to be dead. There’s really good action and intense scenes and has a lot of good twists and turns. I really enjoyed it a lot. I don’t recommend for kids–there are some adult situations and some violent scenes.
2036: Origin Unknown. I’m going to be honest with you–I didn’t care much for this movie. Super Rockstar is always looking for a good space movie and this one looked promising. It was…ok, but kind of slow moving. It’s a little like 2001 Space Odyssey in some ways. I would have given it a solid “meh” if we had not watched the last 15 minutes. The last part of the movie, it is obvious the director did not know how to end it. It takes a very weird and bizarre turn and it made me feel like I needed to watch something else to get it out of my brain.
We also watched a few good movies as a family:
Hobbs & Shaw. I don’t recommend any of The Fast and the Furious movies for kids as there are a lot of scantily clad women in them. But, the Hobbs and Shaw spin off is a really good action movie that’s very entertaining. There’s some bad language here and there and some pretty intense action scenes–but it’s fine tween/teenagers. The boys loved it.
Wrath of the Titans. This is the sequel to Clash of the Titans –with the Greek gods and battles of good vs. evil. It is VERY good. It has some demon type characters that young kids would find too scary and a lot of intense action. But, for older tween/teenage– it was just fine. The only thing my boys didn’t like was the romance between Perseus and Andromeda. Thankfully, there was enough fighting and weapons to overshadow a short kissing scene.
The Day After Tomorrow. This is a really good movie with Dennis Quaid playing a climatologist who has predicted a lot of cataclysmic disasters that will lead the world to a new ice age. As the disasters start happening–he is desperately trying to get to his son (played by a young Jake Gyllenhaal) who is trapped in New York City. Super Rockstar and I have seen this movie several times and enjoyed it and the boys just love it. I could do without the directors need to give us a “public service announcement” about global warming, blah, blah, blah. But, it’s a really good story and I highly recommend it. Younger kids may be frightened by the big disasters and there are some intense moments with some zoo animals that escape.
6. My Favorite Meme’s of the Week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
