A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1.A beautiful wedding. Super Rockstar works with some wonderful people. Last year two of those people became friends, started dating, got engaged and this past week–got married. It was a beautiful wedding and we were thrilled to get to be there with them. Well, Super Rockstar and I were thrilled. Morgan and Grayson were having anxiety attacks about being forced to watch the kissing part. I was SO thankful they didn’t outwardly groan during that moment of the service. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn! Praying God’s blessings poured out on your lives.
2. A family fun day. It’s so thrilling to get to go to our favorite family fun places again. The Summit Interquest is such a great place for entertainment–there’s bowling, laser tag and arcade games. It can be a little pricey to do it all, but they occasionally have coupons and deals to take advantage of. We loved it all and even had a little dance off in between our bowling game turns.
3. Youth group tubing event. I’m so grateful that some of normal life is beginning to resume–including our church youth group. This past week, my younger son Grayson’s group got to go snow tubing at Ponderosa. He had a blast going down as many times as he could.
4. What we watched. We found several good movies to watch this week: Super Rockstar and I, Super Rockstar by himself, me by myself, and as a family. Two that Super Rockstar and I watched together were:
Forbidden Empire. This is produced by a Russian/Ukrainian film company. The trailer looked really interesting and since we were looking for something unique and different–we decided to give it a shot. First of all, we didn’t know that it was a Russian/Ukrainian movie and originally done in their language. It has English audio, but it took a few minutes to figure out why it seemed like a bad lip reading video. Once, we got past that, it was just a matter of trying to figure out what the heck was going on. I will say it was definitely unique and different–but perhaps not in the way we were hoping for.
Surrogates. Now, this one was unique and different–in a good way. It has Bruce Willis and several other big name actors. It’s an imagined future where robots have been created to be surrogates for their human counterparts. Humans stay home as their surrogates go out and live their lives–going to work and anything else they want to do. Trouble happens when someone has figured out a way to kill the surrogate and it kills the human attached to it. We really enjoyed it–a creative story and lots of good action. It’s rated PG-13, but I didn’t think it was appropriate for the boys since it has a lot of adult situations and the violence is kind of disturbing at times.
The one Super Rockstar watched by himself was:
The Last Days on Mars. Here’s what I know about it: It’s a combination of Super Rockstar’s two favorite themes in movies–outer space and horror. The end. If you want to know more–you’ll have to ask him. I do know that he really enjoyed it.
The one I watched by myself was:
The Hunger Games. I’ve been reading the book series and just love it. I watched the movie series several years ago and remembered liking it. I have to say though that this time around–it felt very disjointed. I didn’t like all of the shaky camera work and some of it seemed a little off. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids–it doesn’t show most of the violence (although there is some) and it is pretty clean language wise, but the whole idea of kids killing kids for the sport of the adults watching is pretty disturbing. I don’t think my boys would find that entertaining at all.
And then as a family, we found two movies we just loved:
The Three Musketeers. This is the one from 2011 and it is SO good. I can’t believe I have never seen it before. Other than some cleavage shown from a couple of the female characters and a handful of curse words–it’s very clean and the action is great. We all loved it.
The A-Team. I can’t believe I am the only one in our family that had seen this before. It is SO good and has so many good big name actors. I loved this show as a kid and the movie is so much better. It’s appropriate for tween/teenage–there is some foul language and some of the action is pretty intense. My boys all loved it.
5. My favorite memes of the week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
