A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. A Frigid Valentines Day. We enjoyed staying in our cozy warm home for Valentine’s Day this year. With a high temperature of NEGATIVE 8 degrees, Super Rockstar grilled us some delicious steaks for a special dinner. THAT, my friends, is true love.
2. One on One Time. We like to take our boys out individually every so often just to have some one on one time with them. It’s a time to do something fun as well as time to talk and find out what’s going on in their lives. There’s always this terrifying moment for us when we give our boys the choice on the “fun thing”. Will it be Dart Warz? (please Lord no) Will it be Skyzone? (trampoline jumping for an hour? Um no.) It was my turn with Grayson and he chose to go see a movie (YES!). The best part about being with Grayson, is that he is always upbeat, he’s easy to talk to and he LOVES to laugh and joke around. We’ve always said–“he lives life out loud”. And I do mean OUT LOUD. Watching a movie with him is a full sensory experience.
Super Rockstar and Morgan tried out a place called Overdrive Raceway. There was a precarious moment for Super Rockstar when Morgan seemed to be leaning towards Dart Warz (you could see the sweat beads forming on his brow), but ultimately decided he wanted to try something new (whew!). Overdrive is an indoor go-cart race track and it was the first time Morgan got to drive a go-cart by himself. They had a GREAT time and Super Rockstar said he was grinning ear to ear the whole time. When I asked Morgan about it, he said it was a little scary. Their review of the whole experience was mixed. They had fun, but it’s pretty pricey–around $25 per person to go 12 laps. Other negatives for them, is that it was pretty crowded–they had to wait an hour for their race and some of the other drivers were just down right jerks.
3. What We Watched. Super Rockstar and I are on a Jason Statham kick right now. His movies are all about the same theme–bad guys (them)/ good guy (him) and LOTS of great action. The first one was Parker. I really like this one. He’s a thief that has been double crossed by his crew and is out for vengeance. Jennifer Lopez is in it too as a struggling real estate agent who ends up helping him so she can get a cut.
We also watched Killer Elite. In this one he plays a retired killer-for-hire whose mentor (played by Robert De Niro) is captured, so he is back in business to do a job for the kidnappers so they will release his friend. Overall, I really liked it–although some of the story didn’t make sense at places. The movie is based on a true story.
With the boys we watched the last two Lord of the Rings–The Two Towers and The Return of the King. I love these movies so much. My only criticism is that for the final one, the ending goes on and on and on. I think we counted 9 endings. Come on man–finish it already.
And then Grayson and I saw Monster Hunter for our one on one night. In reading the parent info, I was a little concerned about the “monsters”, but it didn’t seem much worse than others we had seen (like Godzilla). BUT, and this is a big one–they didn’t mention a particular scene with giant spiders that went on and on and on and had some disturbing and over the top scary images. I covered his eyes for that part, but he saw some of it and we were both bothered by it. The rest of the movie is pretty good action, but there are some story plotlines that leave you wondering “where the heck did that come from?”. I guess it’s based on a video game–so I think it would be helpful to know more about the game to understand some of the movie. We’re both still wondering about the random “Man Cat” character. But, he made for a nice comic relief and helped us forget about the terrifying spiders.
4. My Favorite Memes of the Week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
