A weekly list of things accomplished, enjoyed, learned, tried and remembered.
1. Our own sledding hill. Just before spring break, we got another dumping of snow–complete with wind, so it created magical drifts everywhere. It’s not so great for driving in, but it made for one heck of a fun sledding ramp in our front yard.
2. The Chicken Coop Gig. I can’t believe that SofaKillers not only is getting to play gigs again, but they got to play two weekends in a row. Gasp! This weekend they played one night at our friend’s Art and Sherri’s bar in Black Forest called The Chicken Coop. It was a blast–standing room only and everyone packed on the dance floor dancing the night away. It was a special night to also celebrate Sherri’s birthday. She is a special lady and I hope she had a very special day. Happy Birthday Sherri! Also, if you want to see Super Rockstar shake it–be sure and watch the video.
3. My birthday boy. Our oldest son, Morgan, turned 14. Let me write that again–because I’m pretty sure I added wrong. Fourteen. He can’t be. It was just yesterday that I brought this tiny little 5 lb 3 oz little peanut home. Now he is all legs, pushing 5’10, with a deep crackly voice. I love that he is still all little boy–with a passion for Transformers and Star Wars, but he also has started to notice girls (hold me back) and struggles in this in between time of becoming a young man. I love his kind heart, his thoughtfulness, his introspection and how funny he can be. Since he will be starting high school later this year (sob!), we surprised him with his first phone–check out the video to see his priceless reaction. Happy Birthday my beautiful boy!
4. What we watched. Super Rockstar and I decided it would be fun to start watching the old Star Trek movies–you know the ones with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. So, we started with the first one– Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Let me just say this– it was made back in 1979. The makers of Star Trek seemed to be very impressed with the starship enterprise model they made and spent A LOT of time making sure that every angle, nook and cranny is shown. It was a two hour movie that probably could have been condensed to 1 hour. I liked the story, but I was not a fan of the long drawn out scenes that seemed intent on showing emotional drama that didn’t really exist (Shatner’s trademark). We will continue our quest–they can’t get any worse, right?
As a family we watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Apparently back in 2017 when the original Justice League was being filmed, the director Zack Snyder had a family emergency and had to quit. So, the producers brought in Joss Wheden–who has done all the Avengers movies–to finish it. The only problem is that Joss’s vision didn’t quite match up with Zack’s. So, Zack asked the producers to give him another crack at it. The finished product is a 4 hour version of the movie with a darker, more Batman like feel to it. I loved it. We watched it over a two night period and we all enjoyed all the extra scenes, the way he put it together and I felt like the whole story made a lot more sense. It is Rated R and I would normally never even consider letting my boys watch a movie with that rating. But, in looking at the parent guide–the biggest issue was the adding of a lot more foul language. I counted at least 3 F-bombs and several other curse words. The action is quite intense and like I said, it has a bit of a darker feel to it. But, it really was very good and we all enjoyed it.
5. My Favorite Memes of the Week.
As always, I would love to hear from you. I hope you have a great week!
